How many of you use the spud shaft for the added length to get the coupler out between the radiator support/crossmenber?

How many of you bolt the steering universal joint direct to the saginaw box?

I have seen it done both ways and now I'm in the middle of doing two of them at one.

Thanks

Dan, as far as I am concerned, the spudshaft is a relic of a bygone era. At the point in time where they were being actively promoted and installed, the major vendors also said it was not possible to do a standard Saginaw install with a 6 cylinder.
This also had something to do with the rigid thinking on locating and orienting the box.

Yes, pass on the spud shaft Dan.

With a carrier bearing you can get a pretty good bend to the steering shaft. I needed to do one with the turbo setup I had on my 40.

Azrocks, The 1977-older Saginaw 800 series gear boxes had a 13/16-36 input shaft. The 1978-newer Saginaw 800 series boxes have a 3/4-30 input shaft. I will be sending you a PM since I can help.
xiero, you have a very old Downey kit, with hex shaft, custom built for Downey, no replacement parts available. If yours needs repair, you'll have to upgrade to a whole new shaft/joints.

Thanks
One has a hex shaft so I'm starting over with it.
I found this reference sheet that came in very handy when ordering the Flaming River and Borg Warner components from Summit Racing.
