Has anyone tried any of the "dip" rust removers? Dou you have any recommendations for rust removel on items such as brackets that are a real PITA to hold on to.

Evaporust and the WD40 Rust Remover solutions are great!
I have used both on several parts.

Use a wire brush to remove the heavy, scaly stuff and drop into a container with the solution. Wait a day or two and they'll be nice and clean.
Take them out, scrub them with soap and water to confirm they are clean. Wash with TSP and then paint with zinc-rich primer

If you just want to toss them in a bucket and be done with it... Workshop Hero rust remover works flawlessly

Thanks, I will look into it.

X2 on muriatic acid. It's wicked (don't inhale it or get on your skin), but cheap and super quick. You must quickly rinse it in a basic solution when done and DONT try on aluminum (don't ask me how I know). It is awsome for a pile of rusty fasteners and small parts, just dump them in and watch the fizz

And don't pour it out onto your concrete driveway.......

i had great success using apple cider vinegar when i started rebuilding my 8274. soaked the crusty spool, gears, brake discs, ball bearings and lock plate for a couple days and the rust that made it out of the bucket wiped away with a rag or turned loose under the wire brush. also cleaned a couple lawn mower blades and bolts while i was at it.
