Hi,

How bad is the rust as below. Can I handle it with some DIY stuff without taking it to a body shop?

Thanks

Bad.

Looks like it's already been (poorly) repaired with bondo which is why it's coming back. Flaking rust like that usually has to
be cut out and new metal welded into place, you will likely find some holes once you start digging into it, and there's very likely more
rust you haven't found yet.

Check the area below the bottom of the doors (rocker panels), you have to get down on your stomach to actually check that area
then slide under the vehicle from the sides and look up and inward.

Then check the lower inside edge of the doors behind the weatherstripping.

Also check the wheel wells, front and rear but very closely in the rear; rust often starts in the "dog leg", that short section just behind rear facing edge of the rear doors and infront of the wheel well. Look and feel inside the wheel wells, people will sometimes cover rust with undercoating.

Check the rear hatch and tailgate and around the outer inside edge of the hood very closely for rust.

Basically crawl all over and under it with a bright flashlight.

For what you've posted, IMO/IME you'd have to remove the windshield and gasket, then the molding on the drip rail and the molding on the door to get a better look at it. Then sanding down to metal and removing any old Bondo before you'll know how bad/big the rust holes are. May also need to remove the inner door panel to look inside that one rusty door (cavity). The rust under the windshield gasket is likely much worse that what you can see now.

Others will chime in but to fix that correctly is doable with time, tools, possibly a welder, replace the rusty door with a good one, etc, etc.
