running isssue now a no start issue

To start with this is my frankinstien 83/84 FI engine that is in a 86 with /no elect hooked up but the injectors and the cold start injector.
it has bee on occasion with a mind like a women just stalls on me. it also take a try or two to start in the AM ..

Today I am coming off the freeway it stalls again and now it will not crank up. I was able to push start the thing but it would not keep running with out me keeping the throttle engaged.. Any thoughts fellows? It seems all the fuses are OK

If I take the small wire off going to the starter and jump it to the battery I get nothing. Shouldn't the starter spin by passed like that?

Yes the starter should spin when jumped like that. Are you getting the click of death? Or nothing at all?

nothing at all.. I went home 100 miles and picked up the 80 so now I have a meter to check things out a little better... maybe it is just the starter.

Assuming your wire was hooked up good and isn't broken, then you have a starter issue. And not the dirty contacts, because it sounds like it's not even actuating the plunger....

I also found the cold start injector half unplugged would that keep it from running at idle?

It wouldn't stop it from running, but might make it rough when cold....

Does it sputter then die, or just cut of clean?

You got something messed up in the wiring

dies like the key is shut off... as long as i keep the throttle open it runs OK

the starter is bad I had time today to wring out the wiring. engine ground is good seliniod wire to starter is good starter is getting 12 volts battery has 12.?? volts so battery is good.

it just started this when the starter crapped out on me.

decavo you know you can have 12 volts on your battery but not enough amps to turn the starter.
also did you check as some one turned the key?

nope I did not check the battery while turning the key. It is a new battery. bought it when I got the truck
