GroundUp -- I'd like to know your source for the white and black pyramid mats.
My '68 literature also shows the pyramid-like mats for the front, but in black.
White was a really odd color for those running board inserts -- stayed clean
for how long????

I can't speak for literature, but my 68 definitely had traces of the white treadplate when I got it 20 years ago. Of course, the running boards were one of the first things to 'go' on that rig. ;p

I checked the three sets I have in town. The two sets that are on vehicles are missing the pads completely. The one that is off of the 61 I'm cutting up has a little bit of it left, but it's rusted so bad that the center part is mainly gone. Mainly flat not pyramids. I'm having to take one of my 25s up north this weekend. I'll check my 25s and my 45 and some other long ones I have stored. I'll take pictures of the best ones and post them.

Not that I know of. Should you get some samples and eventualy order some material, let me know! I'd like enough for a pair.

I have done nothing on the rubber but would be in for a set or
two if someone gets it going. Too many other things going on
right now....

Has anyone done anything on this? If not, I'll get some samples and get it rolling. Looks like white was original.

I scraped the white squares off mine (concealed under the hold-down trim).

One thing to consider,

If you go with the white running boards, you'll need to go with white upholstery for the seats to keep the whole 60's thang going on :grinpimp: .

Nope. Early upholstery was kind of an oxblood / cordovan color.
Then, in 1967/8/9 it went to the same dark grey used for many
years. Never saw a cruiser with white upholstery. Funny that the
running board stuff was white -- nothing stays white for long --
especially on a cruiser.

I was talking about the USA street scene.

OK, this is what was under the trim on mine (1960 FJ25). The pyramids came to a point, these have just been smushed down by the trim. I've got a few samples on the way to compare.

This is as good as it gets. Pattern is a little tighter, 5 1/2 blocks per inch instead of 4 1/2 blocks per inch on the original.
