I have been planning on running 37s and I have been starting to put together a lift for it. I went to the badlands yesterday and now I am not sure if 37's are going to be too much. There were several areas where I barley had enough clearance from trees going across the trails and the top of the 80. It seems like a 4" lift and 37s would make the 80 to tall for Cliffs and the Badlands. Are any of you guys running 37s and having issues at Cliffs and or The Badlands?

2.5" lift and 37s and a little trimming is the way to go. But if you don't want to trim then I suggest 2.5" lift and 35s. I would not go taller than 2.5" on an 80.

I was planning on going with j springs in the front and 863s in the rear. There's a few members on here who are running the same setup with 37s and have been really happy with it.

What are J springs & 863's
I don't speak 80
Build it low.
Run 37's if you think you need to.
Cliffs sucks.
And I run any trail/obstacle I want on 35's.

Fxxxin A right!

He has a add-a-leaf in the back and cranked torsion bars in the front.

If you truly get into the trails at the cliffs, tire size doesn't matter. I had plenty of trouble on 42's, just like on 38's, and 37's, and 35's. Half the park is rutted out from 40"+ bloggers and v8's.

The lower you can keep it the better. It's an 80, it's already tall. J's and 37's works, it's just tall. Keep it lower with a softer spring and I think you will be happier.

Are you thinking 2.5" lift and 35s to?

Honestly, it depends how far you want to push it, and how much seat time you really have off road. Be honest with yourself, or you are going to find yourself in very painful situations quickly. A locked 80 on 35's is already more capable than its sheet metal will allow.

You sound relatively new to wheeling judging by your posts. Don't get too caught up building a rig far beyond your driving capabilities right out the gate. 37's, while not a whole lot bigger than 35's, opens up whole new cans of worms. Smaller lift still keeps it driving well, won't force a regear, and minimizes cost if you want to do J Springs right.

I actually have 8 plus years of experience wheeling but they have all been with a wrangler. I had 34s on the Wrangker and wanted to go to 35s or 37s but it's a whole different ball game when it comes to going to anything bigger than 34s on a Wrangler. I've only had the 80 for a few months. The 80 was purchased for wheeling and camping. I've gone wheeling 3 times in less than a month so I do plan on going as often as I can. I really did want to do a 4" setup with 37s but after going to Cliff's and the badlands the last couple of weeks I am worried that a 4" lift and 37s maybe to much and was thinking of the 4" with 35s but after posting this thread I am starting to think a 2.5" lift with 35s maybe the best route.

I have been able to do everything I wanted stock but the extra lift and tires size would help a lot and allow me to do more.

I would wheel it stock or with 33s. You don't need 37s with an 80 for wheeling around here. I'm going on year 10 wheeling with 33s and I am finally ready to step up to 37s so I can follow these Sally's around when we hit up places other than the badlands and stuff and I have done just about all you can with a tacoma on 33s.

Plus I need to compensate for my lack of manhood with some bigger tires

I have a set of 35"s on 80 wheels I'm looking to get rid of if you're interested. They're General A/T's 315/75/16. PM me if you'd like any other info.

You want to put 37s and a 4" lift on, but you don't want to take off your running boards because your kids use them to get in?

Once you go 37s aggressive enough to make any difference at the Cliffs your truck is no longer fun to drive on the street or usable as a DD unless you want to make a lot of concessions. It will be a pain in the ass every day, so you can have questionable (at best) improvement a few times a year.

and congrats on the snorkel. The single most worthless poser mod ever.
