I have been considering a RTT. I am thinking of the ARB simpson 3. Do any of these tents (ARB or not) have space i them that is not mattress and bedding? Seems like an area that is just floor would be nice for shoes and such...
thanks.

nope, all mattress I'm pretty sure. For shoes I string a net behind the ladder and drop 'em in

A RTT is a long term goal for our trailer. One thing that will be part of the deciding factor when we shop will be the provision for a vestibule or dressing room. That's got to go up easily, too, or you tend to skip using it. Personally, we'd find one hard to use without a covered area adjacent to the RTT.

I throw the front floormats by the ladder in the vestibule of my ARB simp.3. Leave shoes there, vestibule rolls up and I bungee to tubing when not needed. Vestibule packs away under cover also.

I hang my shoes off my ladder or off of the awning extension on the ARB Simpson IIIB tents, works out find and keeps them out of the weather a bit too.

I wrote up a brief review on the ARB Simpson IIIB tents here:

With nearly a hundred nights in the ARB I'm still happy with it.

Figure I might as well toss this here too, I wrote this article to help potential buyers decide if a RTT is for them:
Is a Roof Top Tent for me? The RTT Conundrum

Expect a RTT's mattress to cover the entire inside. You always could cut out a piece of the mattress and have the mattress cover altered which shouldn't cost too much - or - you could buy a changing room and leave your shoes hanging below in the room or just out in the open.
