there is a removable slotted cowl that serves no apparent other purpose than to re-seal the right side windshield wiper pivot screws, look at the screws you can't reseal on the left side pivot and allow water to penetrate the rather pourus skin on the insides of the ape-illars? If there is no other benefit to having it there, I may be inclined to delete it as it seems to me to be a rather nice place for water to gather and do it evil deeds.....

Lambcrusher,

This is a good area to discuss. I've been looking at the ( trough ) and wanting to treat, paint, something in there, also. Thinking also about the vent in there, do I really need it? I don't have any of the wiper stuff on the body yet, but I can look at the 69 and think about what you're saying.

I found some grommets that will help to seal the windshield wiper pivots, but it is for not, cause thanks to Mr Toyota, there is this vented panel...Other than to reseal a few joints, I can't think what good it serves. I was thinking about some sheetmetal work to shave the whole panel and blend it in-keeping the water out of that area..........UNLESS, because water can still get in from the front side of the firewall(hood hinge pockets) MAYBE the venting is there to let moisture OUT...Hmmmmm. might have been a good idea to section out the pieces that keep the drivers side pivot concealed(hood hinge pocket) in order to reseal/prime/paint the inside of the chasm/channel, and the reinstall the hood hinge pockets....I'm going to give it a shower today with the hose on full blast and see if the water is still infiltrating....pics to follow. merry christmas mothras
