hey fellas, need your help on this one real quick.
i was underneath the steering column on my 4runner scoping out locations for me to pull 12 volts from to operate a relay and found some sweet PO wiring hackage.

the wiring harness that comes down out of the ignition switch on the column has a black connector right at the bottom of the dash, near the ac ductwork.

well, the PO did a sweet job for me. He apparently cut the main harness and then instead of re soldering it back together, he added two pieces of smaller gauge wire twisted together inbetween and secured with tape. so now i have some dumb service loop made out of two wires twisted together for no reason. oh, and he did this in two different locations.

well, i figured i would take the "service loop" out and solder it together and cover with heat shrink correctly. well i pulled the terminals out of the back of the connector and now i cant remember which goes where and the color changes on the other side of the jack.

Can anyone help me out here? i have a black wire on the truck harness side, and no black wire on the other side of the jack...there are some brown....but no black. need to make sure i put it back in the right place.

ill try to get a pic.

crappy cell pics. you can see that one half of the jack has less wires than the other for some reason...so i cant figure out which goes where. on top that the colors change from either side of the jack.

there are some browns and black with white stripe that is not on the other side.

i think that the solid black wire from the truck side of the harness goes on the outside terminal next to the black/yellow on top. can someone confirm??

i need the location of the solid black wire in the jack on the harness side, as i pulled it out of the jack to solder it correctly. I think its located in the top corner next to the black/yellow but not sure.

there is no solid black on the column side of the connector and missing pins so its not as easy as "the odd man out" lol.

thanks for the help

It's gonna be kinda hard for me to get that, my entire under-dash harness is folded up in a box right now. I can easily get you the other end, but doesn't sound like that will help.

I know Sam (Lowe Toyota) is working with a harness right now, maybe he can find it.

Dang it... i think he is out of town right now too. sent him a pm though...

anybody else got a second to stick there head under the dash???

Hopefully that will help. The side with the blue tape is the ign switch side, the side with the factory black tape is the harness side.

I'm going to have to hack mine up anyway bc the ign switch on the mini only has 5 wires, and the Runner obviously has a few more.

thanks lowe!

in that second pic, the bottom black/white wire....what does that connect to on the otherside of the jack? is it also black/white???

my truck has a solid black wire on that side...the factory part is solid black (once all PO hack is removed)

edit....in your last pic..that is the truck side of the harness right? that shows a black/white wire in the top left position..is the wire directly below that solid black? or black yellow??

just double checked my truck...there is only solid black on the truck side of the harness

I'm looking at it now and the black/white stripe wire connects to a black/white stripe. There is no solid black. There is a solid white opposite a black/red stripe on the other end.

huh,,,i wonder why mine is different. i gues mr. T ran out of black/white that day...

oh well, i plugged it up into the black/white location on the connector and it fired up right...so i guess its right...

no fires thus far...

thanks for the help guys

We were looking at a ewd for the 87 that's going in my truck and one of the techs was telling me that the late 80s they changed some of the wiring between years.
