I been noticing lately when the motor on my '88 pickup is hot like after driving to work. When I pull to stops signs and lights the Rpm drops really low almost as if it's about to knock out. But I save it by giving it revving the motor slightly to raise the rpm.

This could be due to a vacuum leak at the brake booster. Does the rpm go back up if you take your foot off the brake?

Thanks guys for the input. It was actually a sticking egr valve. The egr would open when driving on the freeway and get stuck open causing exhaust gases into the intake and causing the rpm to drop to almost stalling.

Cleaned egr with carb cleaner till I could suck on the hose and see the valve working

My 88runner is experiencing the same issue. its driveable and i have been busy so i just deal wtih it. I guess this weekend i'll be cleaning the EGR. I mean 25 years old its bound to be a wee bit dirty. Thanks.

Maybe its something to do with the 88'S !!!. just kidding they are tanks.
