Ah yes, the Mexican road train! I saw them on I90 a little west of Butte, was figuring they’d head south on I15. Mexicans will come to the US, buy up old Japanese pickups, load them to the brim with spare parts and used appliances, hitch them together and take off back to Mexico.Which of you lucky bastards out there was involved with the convoy I witnessed earlier today south of Dillon on the interstate
>> Saw 6 old Toyota pickups , each flat towing their own little Toyota pickup trucks all loaded up with parts and stuff...( some may have been old Nissan pickups? )
Was quite the scene to see and I cant really make sense of how and why such a convoy was created
haha no way, that's wild! I cant help but say I'm a bit jealous of the convoy... I was in the process of a much less impressive road trip, flew down to Vegas and drive back and old Lexus lolAh yes, the Mexican road train! Roger that.....truck looks like a total rust bucket probably a terrible idea on my part but who knows, might be fun just to rip around with it... ( I miss the old Camry diesel )22RE was phased out with the 2nd gen 4Runner and Pickup, the first gen Tacoma got the 5VZ-FE, 2RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE.
Yeah its wild, I was thinking about how much fuel it would take to get it to 1 mil lol...That's crazy, and what's even crazier is the amount of fuel it has gone through to achieve that, around 57000-62000 gallons. Would be even better if there's actually a paper trail to prove the mileage. I can't imagine putting that many miles on a single vehicle, I tend to change mine out too often for that to happen.
Owner said they contacted Toyota but since they are not original owner , Toyota did not care....Back in the day if you had a Toyota hit 1,000,000 miles often Toyota was pretty interested in taking it from you and doing some reverse engineering. I know early on maybe 80s or 90s a few of their cars hit 1,000,000 miles and they gave them brand new cars off the lot in exchange for their old 1,000,000 mile car. I think it was a Camry?
In 1998 they said the 100 series was gonna be their first million mile chassis so I don’t know if they’re thinking they would all run that long or not. Everyone scarfed at the idea of 1,000,000 mile car, but there’s quite a few out there getting close to that number. I’m sure! Heck my daily driver has 400,000 miles on it and still going strong.
After the first couple of years of W123 production they dropped all the gas engines due to emissions and fuel mileage challenges, but when the W124 was introduced in 1985 it came with several I6 gas engines. That one is the M103, SOHC 2.6L producing ~160hp. They're fairly highly regarded as being reliable and stout engines, popular for turbo builds in Europe. Overall I've heard that the W124 is an extremely well built, reliable platform, though I haven't owned one myself yet. I'd love to find a clean 400E with the 4.2L, 275hp V8.Thought of @AirheadNut Claims ready to drive as-is but what's the deal, this has a gas motor? I thought they were all diesels but apparently not?
