I am in the process of what you suggest. I was intrigued by the fact you suggested it for veggie oil, and I hadn't come across that yet.

Very nice rig btw, (I have been following the bumper thread). And Turbo Yak is quite fittig.;)

Thanks

Why?

I am very interested in the swap idea....just starting my diesel edu.

For veggie oil, the best recommendation is indirect injection and an inline pump. Of the two, the inline pump is the more important part. The 2H doesn't have piston skirt spray thing if I remember correctly although in real life it apparently doesn't matter (used to cool pistons from heat of turbo iirc). Craig from Plantdrive.com recommended the 12HT.

1) where did you get the spring bases
2) how much $$?

Spring bases - G&S Cruiserparts $400US/pair (very rare)

BTW - You should be aware that if you install these bases that your FJ-60 seats will not just bolt-on. You will have to do a little fabbing. You will also have to remove your rear heater and will loose all under-seat storage.

Best of luck to you in your project!

very nice setup!

Thanks for all the support, guys.

I almost forgot to mention - I expect to be at Surf 'n Turf in November. Maybe I'll see some of you there?

Wow, sweet rig! Are you refining your own bio?

Wow, sweet rig! Are you refining your own bio?

Thanks. No, I don't brew my own. We have bio at the pump on the other side of town. It's a bit of a drive to fill up but I don't want to have to deal with the tax problems of brewing my own. It's a lot of work anyway.

I didn't actually.

So the deal is this: She used to be the Goat. She was slow, stinky, gutless, and liked to chew on things. ;)

Since the diesel swap, Goat didn't seem to be a fitting name any longer. She's still slow and stinky, but there is now an element of brute force.

The Yak isn't a really great name, and hasn't "stuck" so if there are any suggestions I'm open to them.

Haha. Very good reasoning.

I don't know any names

More pics. These are borrowed from the engine swap thread. Let me know when you are finished with them so I can put them back. :)

SO what kind of paint job problems does it have? Looks fairly clean...

The body work was crappy. I can see where someone wasn't carefull with a sander and flattened parts of some corners. The paint (even though it is a factory color) is not a catalyzed paint. It's very soft and has suffered terribly from daily use. I tried to buff it out and just trashed it. There isn't anything I can do.

The paint adhesion is really poor too. The best example of that is around the snorkel. Water has gotten in between the new and old paint causing the new paint to bubble and peel off. It chips really easily and is flaking off around all of the parts they masked instead of removing during painting.

IH8POs.

Edit: From a distance it looks good. The nice thing about crappy paint is that I don't have to worry about pinstriping it on densely wooded Northwest trails.

Your paint sounds like mine. No flat spots in mine, just really bad prep work. Even painted my back, previously black, vents the same color as the car.

Good far away, bad close up. :[

SWEET nice rig

Re: Winch motor driven York air compressor

Hmmm....this sounds interesting! I'd like to hear more about it. If / when you do it I'm hoping you do a write-up.

I've not heard of anyone doing this mod. Is it something you found here on mud?

very cool rig. can't wait to see it in person. let me know if you ever make it up north again.

clint

I have family as far north as Salem, so I make it up fairly often. Wanna try to connect one of these upcoming weekends?

From what I understand I'm not the first to do it. There is a company that sells them. It's fairly common in the Jeep community. I haven't read anything on 'mud about this kind of air compressor.

I'll definitely do a write-up. Basically it's just a Chinese knock-off Ramsey winch motor (4.5 HP) driving a new York (long stroke) A/C compressor. They are bolted to a common frame and the shafts are connected by a modified spider coupling.

I have almost all of the parts. Just need to fab the frame and mod the spider coupling.

Did you put your rear heater somewhere else or do you just not have one? Could you post a pic of the bases? How does the bottom of the seat interact with the dampener? These sound like such a great idea.
