Nice truck, I like the classic white color.

Is you spare tire in the back?

I would also like to see the mounting area of your sliders. Maybe a pic or two with them off the truck (when you were building them)?

I put the spare in back during trips or while wheeling. Around town I just don't carry one.

I don't think I have any pics while building.

Except this one...

Great post Gumby.

My favorites are:
Mazda 3 in 1 double DIN head unit with 6 disk in-dash changer.
Powder coated alloys
Sable maxi-fuse distribution center.

Anyone can go out and buy high buck bits and pieces but it takes a dedicated scrounger to appreciate those mods. Do you remember which year model Sable and what the Mazda radio came out of? I'm with you on the in-dash changers though I could do without a tape, it's nice to have one if you have a books-on-tape collection.

I think you made up my mind to have my spare set of alloys powder coated; especially since nobody wants to buy them for what $$$ I want to get.

Gumby, I like the powder coated wheels as well. I have a white 80 also and have been thinking about doing this. The black wheels on a white truck look better then i thought.

What was your reasoning? Was it purely cosmetic?

-B-,

There was someone unloading brand new Mazda 3-in-1 stereo a while back on eBay. Mazda made a mid-year change in the illumination color of their stereos and had to sell off these head units cheap (~$100 at the time)

These head units were highly sought after by the Mazda owner as an upgrade, since there were no wiring changes necessary to fit these in Mazda cars. Here is a thread on the Miata forum on these stereos http://forum.miata.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=007709#000008

the Center console was from a chain auto super-store. murrays or Pep boys. I saw it just the other day in Target. It has a little insulated part in the back part of the under lid storage that makes a good big flat spot to mount the hinge. I'll work on more pics today.

Ok gummer, not to be a nag but today = several days ago. Now get ur done. :flipoff2: Please. :D

Thanks Gumby, I'm gonna have to find one of those. Not only will it fill my desire for a higher armrest support but two cup holders as well. Wo Ho. :D
How tall is that thing in inches from base to top?????

If you hate the L -shocks so bad, what would you do instead? I do like the ride of the stockers, but I myself need to upgrade, and was just about to order the L's, but you have discouraged me.

I don't know what else to do. If you don't care about droop, you can stick with stock length. OEM is pretty hard to beat for ride quality. If you want longer shocks, I have not found an aftermarket that is valved for LCs in a longer length. What some have done is to retain the stock rubber bushings. The OME use poly bushings that are very stiff.

OME L shocks make the truck rock like a hobby horse on the highway. They do droop nicely though. :)

would you think the same maxi fuse box could be found on a Taurus also?

Great rig Gumby!

I especially like the sliders and how well they work at kicking the truck out of the way of danger! Using it to purposely pivot the truck indicates both an amazingly strong design as well as an amazingly dedicated driver!

The rear bumper is beautiful even with flaking filler! I love that you told us the specs on the steel stock; that filled my little mind with all sorts of thoughts! The mounting method is extremely impressive. I'm having a hard time visualizing the hitch mounting method though, just wondering whether you would want to snap some shots specifically of that from the reverse side?

As B stated, lots and lots of creative approaches that solve things cheaply and effectively. Also clearly an "all go and whatever show happens to happen" truck and I really respect that. Its a daily driver and trail rig all at once and you know how to use it. Very respectable. Man I love this ROTW thing ... its great to see so many great rigs, learn the things that people are doing that work well (or not so well as in your shocks) ... its really an education. Great rig again man, much respect for that and for your ability to wrench with it and wheel with it.

Thanks, Turbo. The receiver is a 10" model, welded on both sides. I set it in deep, so the hole for the hitch had to be redrilled behind the 2x4. There is just a peice of bar stock going from one side to the other with the receiver in the middle. I'll try to get pics.

Raven - I suspect a Taurus maxi fuse box will work as well, but i don't know.

Right on, so if i'm reading right, you used the main support structure of the hitch but not the arms that angle up to the frame, then you welded that to the backside of the bumper?

Also, if you would not mind, whenever you do the pics for that, can you do a couple for your quick-remove-replace flare setup? It would give so much peace of mind to be able to do that rapidly prior to wheeling.

Thanks again man, great rig again.
