Rotor very hot after 30 minute drive

Hello all,

Got the reman caliper from Autozone installed yesterday. Also installed new pads on both rear wheels so they match. Fortunate enough to have a nice stretch of very lightly traveled road near my house so I could do the bedding/seating properly. Everything seems to be working fine, no squeaks either, and no obvious wobble from a warped rotor. Very happy and proud with the result and happy to have learned more about another mechanical system of my truck. Was planning on doing the brakes myself in the future, just not this soon. Based on this experience, I don't imagine I'll ever pay someone to do my brake work again. All told, the reman caliper, new pads for both rear tires, and brake fluid to finish the flush I'd started a few weeks ago cost me less than $100. BTW, I DID do a good bleed on both back wheels to eliminate any bubbles.

Just FYI, I'd actually purchased a reman caliper from O'Reilly Auto Parts that did not fit. The bracket was too narrow to fit on the rotor. It had Toyota stamped into the cast aluminum but it was obviously for a smaller vehicle. Not sure if they have the part incorrectly tagged as a "fit" for a Land Cruiser/LX in their system or someone put the wrong caliper in the box. The Autozone caliper fit perfect but one of the included brake pad clips was incorrect. Fortunately, I was able to re-use one of the original clips.

Thanks again to everyone with their help and advice. It's why this is the only Social Network that I pay attention to these days. :)

Congrats! Once you start doing your own work like this, you may struggle to pay to have a shop do routine jobs ever again.

Personally, I only use the big chain auto parts stores as a last resort. If you have a good foreign car parts store in your area that carries Beck Arnley parts, I've found that more often than not, they are often reboxed original equipment parts. I've never had one of their parts not fit right or be missing pieces.

Good to know. Since I was so pressed for time because of the long road trip coming up I went with the option I knew about. I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future.

I just did a search and the Beck/Arnley headquarters is 45 minutes from my house. However, there are no dealers within 50 miles of my zipcode. How does that happen?! Talk about irony! :bang:

Hooray! Good job. Thanks for posting the followup. Go buy yourself a tool you've always wanted as a reward for not giving the money to someone else as labor charge. (torque wrench?)
