Has anyone got the new ARB series III tent ?

I am torn between the the Hannibal and the ARB roof top tent.

Can anyone help? with which would be better for use in wet tropical climates?

thanks

Is there any reviews on the new arb tent - i can't find any as yet

I can't think of a reason not to be satisfied with the Hannibal. The design has been out in the bush for years now (and relatively unchanged if that is any indication). I don't know which ARB I saw at 2007 SEMA show, but was not impressed with materials used. That said, I haven't followed the newer designs.

I got the smaller one around '05 with a rack and awning and love the package. Money well spent.

I've been wanting to get a roof top tent but wonder if it just a pain in the a%$ when you have to pit stop in the middle of the night. That ladder looks bruttle on the bare feet. Any feed back from someone that was sorry after they bought one?

Brutal? :)

I think the worst would be if it got frosty out and you weren't aware of that little fact in the moment. A little grip tape or herculiner could cure that. I carry flip-flops/sport sandals/or slip-on mocs when I travel.

Places I typically camp are much harder on feet while on the ground compared to the ladder.

Most complaints I read about are more toward the flimsy or inelegant ladder designs. The aluminum on the Hannibal I have is fairly thin-walled and I could see it bending over time if heavier folk were regularly using it. Wouldn't be too hard to reinforce.

You made a good decision with the Hannibal. The new ARB tents use some odd fittings to extend and hold tension on the tent when erected, which I found to be problematic when I got to demo one for a few days. Additionally, the tension straps around the tent to hold it when closed are cheap plastic, and likely to break after a fair amount of use.

I am on my second Hannibal (a hard shelled 'Impi' after a regular folding type). The ladders are fine on the feet - no problem! The old folder I do have to confess - when wild camping - to just climbing out onto the full length roof rack and letting go;) Can't do that now though with the Impi. Great tents.

Why not just use a urine container and attache a clear hose to it which you can snake down to the ground?

I had no problems with the ARB Sereis II ladder and I'm over 250#. First time I set mine up was in the dark and it was raining. I had set it up once in the shop before heading out. It wasn't bad. 10 min and having the extra cover over the entrance was very nice. Having the annex to change in on the ground was very nice too.

Or go cheap and keep a litre empty soda bottle, however, you have to have good hand & **** coordination!
