Just made a trip to the gulf coast with the family (6 loaded in our '04 LC, 7.5 hr trip). Would've been tight had it not been for the 15 cubic foot cargo box I got from Sears (X-cargo xl). It held way more than I thought - I use to use one of those cargo bags, but decided to upgrade for ease of loading. Averaged about 16 MPGs as well. No noticeable wind noise either, I was impressed. Made the trip way better. Just wanted to share as these are much less expensive than some of the other boxes out there (under 200)- and in case anyone was in the market. These must be fairly popular as I counted at least 20 others on our trip.
8 months in on the LC and loving it.

We went from Pittsburgh to North Myrtle Beach last week, via Columbia SC. I had 5 adults in the LX, with an old Yakima Space Case, and a Stowaway2. I averaged 16.5 MPG from Wytheville, VA to Columbia. I picked up another adult in Columbia, with his assorted stuff, and still averaged about 15.5 MPG from Columbia to North Myrtle. I'll have some air bags installed if I do the same trip next year.

I'm looking for a take-off roof rack from a comparable Land Cruiser to move the Yakima further forward on the LX if anybody has one lying around.

Was the stock lx rack that much further back than the LC? To reduce wind noise?
