Finally got some time to work on the roof rack. Nothing like a deadline to make progress. I have redesigned the extrusion crossbars. I am planning on putting the same extrusion as t

Oops...post go screwed up

I want to put two extrusion cross bars between the yakima bars. In total that would be 3 Yakima bars and 6 extrusion crossbars. The brackets that hold the extension crossbars to the main extrusion are designed so all the bars are level.

So I finished the rack. I made some modifications in the front cross bar. I angled it to add a wind deflector upfront. I lowered the rack but then had to raise it since the yakima box feet would not go under the yakima bars.

I added a foxwing awning with a bracket. I added a couple quick fists for the axe and four for the maxtraks. I need to make or get a mount for the hilift/farm jack. I also looking to get a mount for a couple fuel tanks. Are there mfgs that make generic unpainted mounts?

Thanks for the introductions, this very interesting concept, the use of the earlier tower brackets is fantastic, I have a few dozen of them too..

I will study this posting deeper and hopefully have something useful to share..

Here are some close ups of the rack. Worked very well on my latest trip. The height of the yakima racks are the lowest they can go and still allow my cargo box to attach.

I will probably modify the brackets that attach the bars. This would turn the yakima towers to be mounted right side up. This would allow the brackets to not interfere with with the cargo box when i mount it as far to the passenger side as possible.

I totally forgot about this posting..

I'm working on a 80-20 base rack my self but trying to avoid yakima rubber coated tubes because no matter what they developed internal corrosion, hell massive rust and I can not stand it..

Here is a tip for you..

1 1/8" is exactly the same thing as 28,6mm and the great majority of steer tubes and stems on bicycles are that diameter..

I will never use this on a bicycle but for $5;35 a piece from amazon how can you go wrong..

I got them to mount my thule MOAB basket that uses 31.8mm tubes, but now I'm trying to implement them into my new flat platform (The basket is just to tall, I need more clearance)

I hope it helps.
