Hello Guys,

I spoke to Mike about a lead he had on some RTT - hard top.
I have my own my lead on a few statestide ones - soft tops.

If you're interested send me a pm with your email and maybe we can explore this option.
I am not sure if it will make sense or not, but it may be worthwhile to see who's interested, what's available, and if it's worth it.

Thought I would mention - Rocky Mountain Outdoor Co. based in Alberta just South of Calgary Roof Top Tents | Rocky Mountain Outdoor Co.

I bought a new cover for my Chinese knock of RTT from him ($90) and he seemed decent to talk to. Other than that I am not affiliated with him in any way.

thanks! - at this point, we're mostly kicking tires, but it would be nice to explore options.

do you know if they make this stuff here, or is it re-branded made in ghiina?

edit- nice tents, out of my range atm.

He swears he builds them here from material sourced from various places but I doubt it. More likely he spec'd them out with certain fabric and hardware from a Chinese manufacturer and imported them.

I got my RTT from a fellow in Surry BC area. He bought a container full of them from China and sold them relatively cheap. I paid $1450 for the tent with zip on lower room (with floor) and also a 2m awning with zip on walls. That was maybe 3.75 years ago now?

Maybe you need to buy a container full from Alibaba? Get some Foxwing knock offs too...

Wow, Alibaba even has James Baroud discovery knock off units... I paid CAD$5,500 for mine in June 2015 from the Gear Shop, which supported R&D into the very finest overlanding products, sponsors an overlander to do what we only dream of, contributes to a whole supply chain that pays taxes and fair wages, and supports a local retailer who has invested in his dream and sponsored our events and advocates for our causes locally. USD$700 for this criminally copyright infringed knock off is... affordable. I am not sure how I feel about this.

To be clear, I personally would not buy a sea can full of Alibaba knock offs. But, if someone did I would consider buying something from someone who did if I didn't already have it knowing the quality was suspect and the warranty was non-existent.

It's because of tricky ethical dilemmas like this that I choose to sleep in the truck rather than on it. Well, one part ethical dilemma, one part home made wine.

Im with you on this one. I just cant justify the cost of these when my 2 man tent is already sitting at home, takes 2 minutes to setup, and I dont have to take it down if I want to drive somewhere.
That and my damn 80 is heavy enough without bolting an apartment to the roof!!!

Erick, heavy or not heavy can you just drive the damn thing?! Even if it's to wing night. :D

back to the topic.
I've got some sources, mike does as well. We will see what it shakes up to be, I'll keep the ethical and moral power of the dollar in mind. If interested pm me your email address.

That'll sure help the morning hangover sleep in time...:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::flush:
