Okay, here goes. Taking the first step in adding to the existing factory roof rails for my 2016 LC200 to facilitate moving a canoe cross country. So many brands, so many accessories (future add-ons), along with huge amounts of money one can spend. I expect I will never use a tent program. What suggestions for brands to start with for CROSS BARS? Naturally, once i go down a garden path with one brand i will be committed to that brand I suppose (??)

I see the usual Thule, Yakima stuff along with Rhino, etc. etc.

Some opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I have the LFD Ruggedized crossbars. They’re great. Easy install. Easy to attach bolt stuff to.

Also a bunch of ppl did DIY 8020 extruded aluminum crossbars.

For your use case I would definitely get cross bars that lap over the top of your OEM rails, rather then the ones that rest inside them. Lots more accessory options, you can reach up to grab them, also the height will be higher which is going to be important for that canoe, keeping it off the rear hatch and away from your sat antenna. We offer a kit using our wing brackets that works well for this. reach out with any questions...

My first question is what are you currently lacking with the OEM bars to move the canoe now? We toss whitewater kayaks on top all the time and use soft straps to hold them down. If you are concerned with weight add another factor bar or two. MUD members who have gone the full rack replacement often have them available.

Do you have the factory cross bars? If so I can recommend the Thule Portage canoe mounts. I’ve loaded and hauled several brands of canoes several thousand miles with 0 problems. If you don’t have the factory bars, I can also recommend the Thule Aero bars in an appropriate length. I use mine when I need to carry multiple boats and need more width than OEM. They work great with the factory rails.
