Ive been thinking primarily about safety lately, and I have put this one off way to long!

I like the thought of an internal cage, I would buy the kit before I would build my own though.

As for roll cage (bar) I had a cheap s***tybuilt, but it was way to bulky! I was thinking about a 'baja' style cage that would hold a spare tire, jerry can, and keep me safe!

What have you guys done? Recomend?

Love the tire idea! hehe..

I have been thinking about a solution to this thing:

How about if you make really solid slider-tubes below the doors. Then you could make one loop around the back end of the cab and one around the front of the cab, the front one could be bendt to follow the "curves" ot the cab and include a bar across the bottom of the windshield.. then you can make a cross-bracing behind the cab and on the roof...(exosceleton sorta..) (If you plan to roll it then why ruin the paint?)
My point for thinking this way is that the whole thing can be bolted to the sliders and/or removed when doing the shopping-runs

Not sure if it's possible to understand what i mean:doh: But i know my idea is good.. will do this on my planned hilux mk1 wheelin-machine, I even have detailed plans for the connections but I wont reveal it here to the whole world. hehe...

I do understand what you mean, and no I dont plan to roll it. I just want to protect the soon to be missus and the disreputable dog... Me, well, I dont mind paint so much, just would like to let this one actually be drivable on the road until im out of school and buy a new one, or another old one!

I have an idea, but ill post it when i have more time, cheers!

talking with my friends they all recommend just a hoop behind the cab on Toyota trucks.
one, you are going to lose the windshield anyways.
exo's grab a lot of tree branches, and you are still going to lose the windshield.
inside there is just not room, with an interior cage you need a bike helmet.
you just want to save your brain and body.

so we are going to mount the hoop to angle iron on top of the bed and do the X from one side to the other side to the frame.
then a bar back to just in front of the rear wheels.
