Front tire is not bolted on!

My 79-series pickup body lands here at the shop tomorrow morning. I am sooo torn because I like the 77-series four door body and wheelbase. I like how this project is playing out too. I would like it better with a rust free 76-series body or this rust bucket rebuilt into that. I certainly can buy some cheap beat down 80-series with a good frame and title for the 79.

We are trying to bang it all out for axles and suspension plus steering, probably won’t get there right now since we can only spare one more day and a few hours here and there.

However trying to get it to where we can paint the axle housings. Two blocks from the shop is a machinist who says here can straighten up these housings once we are done. We will see how that plays out, I have been wanting to get a jig made for awhile anyways.

Front and rear sway bars, finish steering (yes under side of frame will get worked yet for pitman arm clearance at full lock), front and rear shocks config’ed, finish rear housing as far as a truss, shock mounts and so forth. Brake line tabs on both axles too before final straightening and paint.

Besides all this there is more to get it on the road but that is really 60-70% of the work easy. Once finished axles and suspension is under it plus finished steering, well that is most of it to get it going.

Yup, straightening is the last thing to do, IMHO.

Well that was a fun way to start a Saturday! No dock so getting it out was a bit tricky!

I will need a core support to make the body complete. Last time we needed that and inner fenders, this time it has inner fenders. Most of the interior trim is here not counting dash. I got headlights, a hood, a grill, ect. Lots to figure out to make it a complete Cruiser though.

Few things I don’t want too like bumpers and side steps.

It’s a 2024 and it was a GDJ79. It came across the border legally and we paid tariffs and duty on it. I am not sure if it will end up on the 77-series chassis or not. Like I say for now I am just going to push it aside.
