Freshly powder coated and ready for install. I ended up going dark grey for both the wheel and the headlock rings....cant wait to install them.
Don't forget to remove the trim rings before mounting the tires.

Not necessary, but guessing so they don't scratch the new finish on the rings mounting the tires.I've never had to remove the rings for install before...

So they are dark gray to begin with so were yours faded or scratched? Beadlocks look good.
I can only refer you to page 5 of the .pdf I linked to above:

I'll be the first to admit I do not adhere to EVERY recommendation from Toyota, but this one was "STOP" and "IMPORTANT" so they probably have their reasons.
My best guess as to the rationale behind this recommendation is because the presence of the "wheel lock ring" during mounting could interfere with the seating of the bead or the inspection of the seated bead. The ring might also interfere with the removal/replacement/installation of the valve stem or TPMS. Also, the ring could be damaged by the mounting equipment.
I also found of particular note in that .pdf the recommendation for the use of BOTH stick-on wheel weights and crimp-on wheel weights (page 6).
For sure this is a good example of "if you don't do it, you're probably OK," but if it were me, I'd do it just to be on the safe side.

I'm still running the old style LT285/70-17 KO's - not the KO2's - and they have a "rim protector" that comes up to the level of the trim ring on the RW's:

Has this changed (been eliminated) on the KO2's? I don't see this rim protector in your pics![]()
Haha- nice truck!View attachment 1376787 Looks great, I am holding out for spring and I will be getting the KO's.
