Long story short I am getting new tires as I'm putting my Toyo's on my wife's 4Runner. Since a lot of us have Rock Warriors I'd like a dedicated thread for tire options. Not many people have updated the tire and wheel database recently.

I want to go bigger than my current size 285-70/17. I would like to also try the new BFG KO2. Problem is the size options are not great. I'd like to get to 33.5-34".

Anybody try the 34 /10.50R17? Skinner tire but gain over an inch in height. It's only D rated and White letters. 305-65/17 is a wash to current size. 305-70/17 would be ideal but not offered on the KO2. 315-70/17 is available but not sure if it will fit the wheel. Says 8-11".

Other thoughts or suggestions?

I'm running KO2's at 285/70 on Rock Warriors, and wishing for bigger. The trouble I'm having is it's really hard to know what final size you'll really end up with since the mounted size almost never matches the listed spec size. So it would be easy to switch to something you think will be an inch bigger and wind up with literally the same or maybe even a touch smaller. I would love for the tire database to include MOUNTED height measured front to back rather than top to bottom, so that tire pressure doesn't play into the measurement. The KO2's are great, by the way... Right now I've added spidertrax 1.25" spacers and have been happy.

Anyway, I second your motion for a dedicated RW database. Maybe it could just be a thread where the initial post is edited as reports come in...sort of the way the Ouray initial post is used in that thread for status of who is going, etc. Could be pretty simple that way.

Have you looked at those 34-10.5/17? Maybe too skinny....

Couple RW photos for "inspiration..." ;)

Best wheels out there! Just need bigger tires! Lol

Yes. I'm craving the bigger tires, too. I need 'em. I need 'em bad.

Currently running Cooper Discoverer AT3's in the 285-70-R17 size.

I have a brand spanky new set of RW's in the garage, still in the original boxes. I'm thinking I mount up a set of 295's or 305's. Bolt 'em on. Let 'em rub if they're gonna rub. At least I'd have some big boots. (I know; I'm nuts!)

:)

I'm rolling the 34s. They performed last trip out there with you all in Ouray and very well at the Jambo. I like them. Also. A lot of info out there on why wider is not necessarily better.

@BTUMAN those are 34x10.5? I agree narrow is better in the snow.

Just not a lot of options in those sizes for a good A/T.

Growing up in the clay-mud of South America, I agree with you about wider not always being better. Skinny cut through the soft top to the hard stuff below. Fat just slid around on top.

Hey. Could you do a real-world measurement from left to right for over-all "height" of your 34's mounted? Not top to bottom (because pressure differences will mix up results) but from left to right? I'm super curious to learn how they stack up compared to my 285/70's. Pretty please? :)

check out page 7 on @bjowett - project 200 thread - Brian goes into detail and breaks down this very size tire "real world"

Well dang-it! The only fly in the ointment is that he's running tundra front end, with 3.5" wider stance...so I'm all screwy in trying to figure out if it will fit on mine without tundra fronts.

I DID find his measurement at 33.1" which is nearly two full inches taller than my 285/70's mounted. That's helpful info! Finally...a real 33"

Thanks @Willy beamin only concern is d rated.

Interesting he measured 33.1" whereas website lists 34.1". I just measured my Toyo's at 32.5" approximately and Toyo's website lists 32.7" which is dead on. I remember hearing Toyo was accurate. Makes me wonder how much smaller the KO2 285-70/17 are? Can someone measure?

Yes 34x10.5x17 KO2s.

My selection was based on:
1. I really wanted KO2s based on side wall strength,
2. it was the largest/tallest tire that does not rub under full use(you can see the pics),
3. balance between road and Offroad use.
4. fit underneath as spare.

Sure- just checked spare that is not loaded- I get 33.25. True, not a full 34- but just a bit bigger than a 33.

Again- if you read the reviews- and based on my experience using them hard a few times- I'm sold.

I went through this process last year looking for a true 34" tire. Because of the Tundra front, I didn't want a full width 35/12.50.
check dodge truck forums for good info on real tire size, they have a 17" rim and need the E rated tires.
My limited research suggested that Nitto and Toyo were the truest mounted size compared to what is advertised.
In the metric sizes, it seemed like 295/70 or 285/75 were the best bet. there just aren't many tires available in either size.

I chose 285/75/17 Toyo ATIIs. They measure out at 33.5 @ 40 psi.

My second choice would have been Nitto Terra Grapplers. I chose the Toyos for a little more aggressive lug, and 65K mile rating.
They are louder on the road than KO2s, but do terrific off road. I've got about 9K on them so far and they still look great.

So obviously no issues off road with the D rated version?

No issues- and I don't expect to get any more off road than I have been driving. Maybe I should be concerned- but seems great.
