Hello Mudders-
Just wanted to share with you my photos and input from this great local 4x4 event that is shaping up to be one of the largest organized events in Colorado and the West.
The event is comprised of 3 days of wheeling (Rock Junction) followed by a show (Grand Junction Off-Road Show) and a day of public lands cleanup. The event is hosted by the Grand Mesa Jeep Club but is non-denominational and anything on wheels is welcomed to attend. This year we saw Jeeps, Full sized trucks, Toyota's and even a few Rovers. It was a breath of fresh air to escape the typical brand bashing and elitism associated with many singular brand events.
The Rock Junction consists of 3 days of wheeling with classes from stock all the way up to buggy/truggy terrain. As many of you know, and some need to come find out, Western Colorado/Eastern Utah is home of some of the best terrain and scenery imaginable for all skill levels. The cost of the event was a mere $25 per person this year.
The Grand Junction Off-Road Show is a day long event which includes a show-n-shine, vendors galore, rock crawling course and great food. The best part.....it's all free!
Sunday is a welcomed cleanup day in the north desert area of Grand Junction. We are truly blessed to have unrestricted access (and I meant unrestricted, you can drive anywhere within the boundaries) and the area is a haven for dirt bikes, off roaders, shooters and unfortunately the worst that those groups and plain scum of the earth. We like to take the opportunity a few times a year to go clean up shop hopefully helping to keep access open for future generations.
The Toyota presence this year was dominated by Book Cliff Cruiser members and Safari-Ltd. employees. It would be great to see a bigger presence from the Toyota community next year. I will post a new thread next year when the date is dialed in.
I ran the moderate class trails on Friday only and had a blast on Calamity Mesa.
