Road manners H41 or H42, which is better?

For road travel I'd go with the:

33s and 3.7s are a bit much to ask of the h42. It will lug in traffic in all gears. If that's the route you're headed, that kind of 'load' is as significant as the others I was speaking to, and I'd shift my vote towards the h41.

That's what the '55 has right now (thet's the one in need of tranny work)!! The FJ45LV will not likely get 3.7's or 33's so it could get an H42 to help it on the street.

Nice question, I 'm glad you brought this up. I've wondered about this for while. I'm in the process of installing an orion and possibly install 4.11's with 33'ss and keep the h42 tranny or keep the 3.7's instead and install a h41 with the orion. Anyhow, I think I have my answer after reading this thread.

First, I'm not so sure that swapping H41 parts into an H42 case is doable.

Well, I solved that question. The H41 parts are now in the H42 case. The first gear comes right to the top of the case but I don't anticipate any issues as the case cover has a slight recess.
