I am re-gearing the front diff on my 76. Other than the info in the FSM, is there any other good info on setting up these gears that I should know? Or just do it by the FSM and call it good?
I am installing 4.88 gears
Thanks, Duane

Pretty much the FSM with color pictures:

After doing a couple, I prefer to set the pinion depth first and then set the pinion preload so that I don't have to set the preload twice. It is not a big deal if you are using shims to set the preload and you have the full set of shims. If you are using a crush sleeve for the pinion preload, you must set the pinion depth first.

randy's ring and pinion webpage has got some info.
