My 55 came equipped to run 7.50 16LT tyres on split rims. However the tyre dealership which i go to has trouble balancing these on the original split rims.

Is anyone aware of a one piece rim which will fit and enable me to run 7.50 16 tyres.

Why are they having problems balancing the tires on the splitties?

I had mine done at the truck/heavy equipment tire shop. Balanced out great with basis ply 35's.

Some of the Chevy/GMC steelies work.

Yeah, two tyre places have told me that split rims are hard to balance. One did them for me, without changing tyres and they weren't unevenly worn and they didn't come up right. I wonder whether or not this is true because there is a bit of work involved (if the tyres are being changed) and they all tend to charge the same price for balancing rims. I don't know. Maybe I'll try a truck place and get it done properly.

you guys are lucky, love the ease of using split rims and the flexability of being able to change a tire on the road/bush.............BUT in the state of Alabama they will not touch split rims at any commercial establishment since a fellow was decapitated a few years ago and the family was awarded a few million; insurers will not cover a business even if a cage is used to mount the tires on split rims.......since my:princess:also drives the piggy have to have something she can get help/repaired if I am out of town:hhmm:

John, took them to 3 commercial truck installers in this area and they all turned me down, called about 6more in ajoining counties and got the same reply; no split rims less than 20 inches!:bang:finally gave up..........insurance and jury awards strike again!!

Ya... thats what I said about taking them to a Truck Stop which is also a truck and heavy equipment shop in some parts. No tire place that sales to civilians will touch the split rims because they normally do not have the cage and if they do have the cage they are so scared of them they say no. Now I used the term civilian. That has to do with your every day joe that doesnt own a company, do farming, livestock, industrial, etc..... let me put it into different wording.... Call a farm store that sales and replaces tires for farm and industrial equipment. Ask them if they do split rims. If they dont ask them who does them from this application, you should be able to find someone that can do split rims. Or you can do them you self with a static balancer.

Only reason I could see the tires not balance very well is if they are bent or something. I had 35" biased ply military tires on mine and they balanced out perfectly. Minus the one that had a slight bend.

Mini, I explored that route "tractor supplies" and drew a "can't do it" unless 20 inches or more.........personally prefer the split rim but have to take into account that the:princess:drives the pig when I am out of town and it would be a bitch to have have a flat and no one would touch it till I got home to repair it:bang: sucky situation cause I had to send the set back..........in other states I understand it is different but here we are screwed:frown:

Yea, I'd say your just plain out of luck on this issue. Not worth the trouble. You would think that My son worked at Discount Tire for 6 years, and even though they did have a cage, none of the guys liked to work on splits. He only saw a few sets come into the store in all those years. Oh well, that's progress. John

Ok...That really sux bro..... I just wanted to make sure we where on the same page as I exhausted my resources of where to find a place for you.

There are some GM rims from older 1/2ton trucks. The steelies are 16" and you take the centers out, flip them, and tack them back in. You will also need to expand the hole that the axle goes through as the Cruiser one is much larger in diameter. Stockton Rims might have what you are looking for with less stress trying to find the correct wheel and most likely not much more money then getting the GM rims converted over. I have asked in the past which 16" Toyota truck rims with work on the FJ55 but never really got any answer. But you might explore that route too.
