K - Newbie question here: Bruce can you explain to me what you mean by "isolated" and in "parellel"?

Thanks

Isolated just means separate from the other battery, as in not connected in circuit to it at all. Parallel is connecting the batteries positive to positive, and negative to negative...as opposed to in "series", which is how your two batteries are connected in your truck to produce 24V.

K - gotchya.... Now I know for next time.

Thanks Stone...

In my case I just use pos to pos etc to the weaker battery. However, regardless that I have 2 batteries, my system is 12 volts with the second battery used only to serve 24 volts to the starter. When both batteries are weak, I use 2 batteries for the jump.

Ive jumped 12v systems with 24v systems. As I sat in the vehicle with the dead battery and turned the key, my partner in crime who had already hooked my neg with his neg momentarily touched the lead from my 12v pos to his 24v pos and success followed.

Now this was done in an auction yard where vehicles stand for long periods unstarted. The yard man had a 12v setup and a 24v setup on his buggy but the 12v......had died that day. He had no bother doing what he did giving that it was on an old style non-ECU style vehicle. Something new everyday........

Not sure if this is relevent to other trucks but UK spec 80's with 1HD-FT engine have 2 batteries and a relay which connects them in series for the 24v starter only, the rest of the electrics being 12v.The owner's manual states that ONLY the RHS battery is to be boosted and the boosting battery MUST be 12v.

In the same way Wayne runs his 12V winches on 24V.... :)
