is there a reasonably easy to modify ladder-attachment system under the CTT (to attach a different type of ladder with some sort of adapter) or is that going to be serious drilling and gluing and what not?

I'd definitely be interested in a ladder, considering mine took a severe bending on her maiden voyage yesterday...

I'll echo what the others have said here and add:

Pros--
1. Big, big windows. Perfect ventilation for warm weather desert camping.
2. Big grommets on all corners. Since the sides are basically one layer, it's possible to string up a tarp from the corner grommets on the side that sees morning sun, thereby creating a second opaque layer, and avoiding baking inside the tent.
3. Light colors don't hold in heat.
4. The side that folded out created a great "awning" shade area.
5. Driving at highway speeds, barely noticed the tent was on. No abnormal noises or rattling.

Cons--
1. The ladder. Seriously.
2. No seriously...the ladder has got to go.
3. Key rings that held on to cotter pins started bending immediately, hence cotter pins started getting lost immediately.

Fit and finish and quality control leave a little to be desired, but for the price it is great.

For those using a yakima round crossbar...i have come up with a solution to holding it on. I am working on Pics and will get those up. Works perfectly and you don't need that ubolt kit that prevents the tent from sliding.

how wide a bar can be used with these underside brackets?

added: Mel says the bottom brackets are 1 1/4" on the inside. I talked to him about the ladder and rainfly and apparently, they are working on a redesign of those. Hopefully, they will be available separately as upgrades.

Ok...I'm really brain dead at this point in time...I read the original "For Sale" thread and then moved over this thread and maybe I just plum missed it but does the tent work with square bars like Thule or just round ones?

No clue if Mel has any left or not at this point but I've got the square Thule bars and would like to know if it will work...

Thanks!

I think square tubes would work. Does anyone know if all the tents are gone yet?

your best bet would be to call Mel. the phone number is listed the company's website.

I mounted mine on 1-1/4" aluminum square tubing and bolted through the bracket and the tubing, no sliding. The tubing will stay on the tent for attachment points to store the tent on a ceiling hoist.

how strong do these brackets appear to be?

man, this thing is huge! 6' long will take most of a full-length roof rack!

Canuck needs help

Hey guys, I want one of these tents but the crazy charges at the border scare me from bringing one into Canada. Anyone out there in Montana that can help me out? Hold it for me and I'll come pick it up or something like that. Thanks

The brackets appear to be strong enough. They are really not under much of a load, just have to keep the tent from blowing off or sliding off the rack.

not yet. haven't unpacked it yet.
I'm hoping to have time tonight...if I do, I'll be taking it on the trail with me this weekend.

My main concern is the ladder....and if it'll be up to the task of holding my large ass as I haul myself up. :D

ladder again

For the most part the majority of us will have our CTT on the same vehicle so ladder height should be consistent.

With that said what about taking one piece of an traditional extension ladder and then cutting it to size. You could then cut this downsized piece in half and add hinges so that it folded in two. If you were set up to weld aluminum you could beef up the cuts where the hinges are and put in some flat plate so that you would make better contact at the hinge.
