I have 97 LX, where do the harness become different for the OEM lockers in the rear? I see a connection available in front... I see the harness from lockers and abs to the back corner with two connections... but mine has one. Is this piece available under the jack mount? Or do I need to get the harness all the way to the dash? Is there a connector in dash for the switch on all models?

Can you switch just the axle harness in rear or do you need the whole thing? Thanks!

My ‘97 450 had the 5 added wires in the floor harness, and so far I’m 3/3 on helping guys who have a ‘97 450 that their floor harnesses were e-locker’d, even if that 450 didn’t get e-lockers.

I suppose it makes it “even” for the cladding & 110,415 holes in the body ;)

In that pic above, you need the harness from rear corner to rear corner, PN# ending in -82163 (at least as I read it), and your e-locker pigtail plugs into it & the RR e-locker motor & position switch.

I had to buy new floor harness/ rear corner-to-corner harness to convert my black ‘97 LC, I went easy & just bought my way, so it’s identical in all ways to a K294 rig.

Ah that makes sense I think so 82161 should bring 5 wires to jack storage then 82163 brings it down through grommet... is there a way to easily identify the 5 wires in the jack storage area? Or is it clear that from front to jack storage be the same on all 97 LX450?

Then I just need the ECU? So many thanks!

The 5 wires are part of 1 of 2 of that big / square-ish multiplug, not a seperate socket - the only reason I know what I do that the ‘97 LX450 floor harnees was all e-lockers was b/c someone posted a pic of the socket plug & the total terminal count was 5 more than an unlockered Landcruiser one, and I’d greased all my sockets.
I have an EWD for my LC, but I just went off terminal count in the plug - IDK which wire is which like some who just added 5 wires.

I bought all the parts so theoretically if I ever have issues, I can either FSM diagnose it or take it to a shop if I’m broke in BFE, and they could diagnose/fix without me having to say anything about core wire harness mods - it’s just a e-lockered ‘97 80.

I rechecked & sure enough my old ‘97 LX450 had the floor harness, and I checked 1 other ‘97 LX450 before I started stating maybe they all were - I’ve helped 2 people/‘97 450’s & we went with the assumption they had the floor harness & both did.

IDK if any other FZJ80’s got the locker floor harness standard, and I’ve never been around a ‘96 450 - so I know nothing there. My 40th AE 80 had the e-lockers from Toyota, so it was no help.

I think Toyota LC’s were stingy about the floor harness unless the option callout req’d them.

**Maybe** Lexus just wanted 1 PN# in the system (at least in ‘97) - so 5) 15’ wires in a ~$65K SUV didn’t matter. But that’s total conjecture on my part.

Assuming you have both locker/axle pigtails, the switch & get that RR harness we mentioned, yes - just the ECU from the RH kickpanel.

You will want to pull your cluster & add the needed bulbs & bulbholders too - otherwise you’re flying blind.

Ah the cluster, I didn’t know this was different, thanks

So the cluster is the same... but there will be missing bulbs and bulb holders in mine? Is this best to get from donor vehicle or are they common parts?

Clusters are 100% the same, all you need are the 2 bulbs & holders to plug into empty holes already there & in the preprint circuit ribbon/board.
Plug -n- play.

Path of least resistance- if you have a yard / cluster you can rob from, that’s fine. Try & get the bulbs that never light up, like ABS, low oil & TC locker ones.
Avoid seatbelt & check engine bulbs ;) - but never hurts to grab a few extra bulbs if you’re already there.
New is cheap too, as long as not NLA. -(holders in my mind)-

Or, if you have a handy dealer with a parts guy who can really get you parts, IDK the PN# for the holder or bulbs, but maybe that’s easier for you.

6 of 1, 1/2 dzn the other IMO.

HTH, not exactly a concrete answer :meh:

LOL been searching forever for this... just took me 6 years to do it myself. all good tho

Just remember to lock ahead of time, or get a winch - wearing bumper.

I have a bad habit of not locking soon enough & can recall twice offhand pulling rope / in the thick of it w/o the axles locked & ready. ;)

I locked the axles before removal from the truck and I removed the whole entire axles assembled by myself.

I was looking for instructions on how to do my wiring. It is really 3 harnesses for the rear locker : the entire driver side, the 2nd is the left to right which connects to the first. then the 3rd harness is the abs/locker harness. boy that plastic clip in the corner (by the driver rear shock absorber) is a PITA. thought I could leave the 2nd one in their, but nope. All 3 are needed if you are going 100% OEM. The front locker is just 1 stand alone harness.

I’m getting ready to build my 5 wire from the rear taillight to the kick panel, managed to salvage pins and sockets from the old original 82163 harness that I replaced w the correct harness that accepts both sockets

I have just completed swapping factory r lockers from one lx450 to another. Mine was completely plug and play with all the wiring already there. Axle harnesses were different and the harness between tail lights was swapped. Otherwise was nuts and bolts.
