I just scored a nice set of full mats, in great condition, but the drivers front is delaminating from the rubber backing. Neither the carpet nor the backing are worn through or damaged, but you can see there’s a foot-sized area of looseness. Otherwise looks nearly new.

Anyone dealt with this? I know there are vinyl heel pads you buy and have sewn on. I was thinking more about injecting some contact cement or polyurethane adhesive through the carpet with a long syringe, sandwiching the mat between plywood, and parking the car on it overnight.

Can you loosen it all the way to an edge, so you can peel back the carpet for gluing? Injecting the glue seems fraught with perils of too much or too little glue, and oozing. If you could peel it back, you could use contact cement or polyurethane adhesive, as you indicated.

No, the floor mats have edge binding, plus does not make sense to pull apart the currently-intact adhesive.

I got a straw attached to some 3M spray adhesive, inserted it through the carpet weave, and got a mist of spray inside, which helped. Still some wrinkle-bubbles to deal with.

3M makes a spray that comes out more snot, less like a mist. Need to try some of that.
