Ok Tom... here's what I'm pretty sure I have hooked up in my '78 desmog... as I said in our conversation, it's a bit difficult to see right now, but I think I have everything drawn out correctly.

Note: I'm colorblind also, so where I say Brown and Blue BVSV, I have listed the Brown BVSV as the one that in underneath the other one. The BVSV ports are discerned by the ports proximity to the threads on the BVSV.

Hopefully you can read it ok...

Tom, I received your email. I don't have an external blue VTV as shown in your pic above, my 2F has a metal VTV screwed directly into the intake manifold. @FJ40Jim has given you the answer that you're looking for regarding the VTV orientation. Also Danny @pngunme has a very nice vacuum diagram that you can follow. Here's where my VTV is screwed to the intake manifold unfortunately is not color coded like yours.

Thanks SO much Jim and Danny. Jim would it be better to get the correct insulator baseplate?? My rig is Federal with a 10/78 manu date. Parts list to insulators 21912-61030 which is 9/77-1/79 and 21912-61020 which is 2/76-7/80, any idea which one I would want if I go the new insulator plate? So with my blue VTV, the blue side should be closer to the carb connection? I had thought it pulled vacum from the TP port on the side, right now it is pulling vac from the vac connection on top of the intake manifold in front of the carb. Also can I connect the stud bolt that attaches to the top of air cleaner from existing carb to the one you re-built for me, it is missing one. Thanks!!

Mike that is definately a different looking VTV but I appreciate you posting!!

Yes, the correct part would be better.

Have onur order the correct one for your truck.

So with my blue VTV, the blue side should be closer to the carb connection?

It should flow easily in the direction of the CB.

it is pulling vac from the vac connection on top of the intake manifold in front of the carb.

Good.

Also can I connect the stud bolt that attaches to the top of air cleaner from existing carb to the one you re-built for me, it is missing one.

Screw it in wherever it's needed.

Mike that is definately a different looking VTV !

That's not a VTV, it is the manifold vacuum fitting.

Jim you rule-thanks again SO much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will post up pics when everything is in.

Found original base insulator plate, thanks Orange45; Georg. Pics will be coming...................

OEM new is NLA; unobtainium...............................

What is everyone using as tubing from the HIC bottom facing port in my first picture that goes to the front side facing port on the insulator base?? I am wondering if like the charcoal cannister connections I need to use fuel safe tubing or just regular vac tubing?? Once I get the base from Georg will post up some pics. Thanks again Danny for going above and beyond with your diagram-much appreciated. How are you feeling these days?

As I am following Jim C's desmogg diagram, the Valve Assy, Vacuum Switching pn#89570-60010 also called the "computer" is not required. What if any advantage would it be to get one? Would it help rig running better or is this just something I would want if down the road I re-smogg??

Base plate from Orange recieved and prepped................pics coming

Vehicle now PURRS at 650 with strong and steady vac pull at 16!!!!!! Pics coming................

Pics.......................runs spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have timing at about 10-12 deg BTDC, so a bit more advanced than 7 deg. Running 91 Octane and non ethanol when I can get it. Runs great at both 5300 ft and 1200 down in Phx as well. A special thanks to JimC for his most excellent work..............should have installed this a LONG time ago. Thanks all!!!!!!!!!!!!
