Hey guys,

We have a 1985 4runner that's having intermittent starting problems. When you turn the key, you can here it click up under the passenger side dash, but it's not turning over at all. Basically, it doesn't appear that the starter is being activated. Other times it just starts right up with no issues, so I don't know if it's a short or anything else it could be. We're in Adel, IA, so does anyone know a good reputable toyota shop for these 85's, by chance in an around the Des Moines area? Thanks for the help,

Howdy! Sounds like your battery is dying If not that, then maybe cables or starter. Any good auto parts store should be able to check out the battery and starter while still on the rig. John
 
The brushes in the starter solenoid need to be replaced. It's a common problem with them after a couple hundred thousand miles. It can realistically be rebuilt for about $15.00 in parts if you can do it yourself but any shop is going to want to replace the whole starter.
