well a heater backflush and a new t-stat and it now is at about 80% heat which is an improvement but also a disappointment  . the rear heater now works great and some rusty flakes came out when flushing the front core.

has anyone done a heater core change? how much of a pain is it?

Take the engine out. Sawzall a hole in the firewall. Remove the heater box. It's easier that way.

Sell the truck.

You're gonna hate this project.

I've just done an 85 and an 86...not much love for ya. Once you do the first one, the second ones easier, relatively. 7-8 hours for the first one, 4 or so for the second. Biggest pain is working with all the cable controls. That, and removing 90 per cent of your dash from the truck. Oh, and not discharging the a/c.
