Has anybody tried the replacement spring packs SOR sells for the Pig? Their website says they teamed up with an Aussie manufacturer, is that OME?

Is there a preferred replacement spring? Looking for a small lift, mostly need to correct the all-around sag.

Stick with what you have, try a simple re-arching.

Almost every thing I read about AAL's says they make the ride rock-hard, and you'll regret it.

The re-arching sounds tempting, but I'm trying to adopt the "do it right the first time" method, based on past experience with penny-pinching. Just under 3 bills doesn't sound excessive to me for better springs with a built-in lift, and minimal chance of sagging in my lifetime.

That said, I have a 8274 and BIG front bumper and brush guard, probably close to 200 lb in dead weight, maybe the add-a-leafs wouldn't be so harsh in front?

The OTHER thing is the 33's I'm running, there is very little fender opening left, looks kinda lame.

Add-a-leaves are fine, but they increase the arc of the stock spring (which is the intention). This decreases the eye to eye spacing on the spring and thus decreases the shackle angle. Then some swear by re-arching, some swear at it. It can essentially do the same thing if arched for above stock lift.

I'm assuming with the SOR leaves, you are planning on only changing two of them and lifting the other half with shackles? Add shipping and the special spector handling fee and you are adding a hundred dollars. I don't remember if a concensus was reached, but way back in the turn of the century (the early 2000's :)) much discussion occured about springs on the old pig registry (still trickling with activity). I was under the assumption the springs were manufactured by McCoy or whoever did those Safari springs everyone hates so much. I would bet my left nut that they are not made by OME, otherwise they would sport the discount Dakar name and would make a marketing point of that.

The only lifts that seem to have a great rate of satisfaction are Alcan's (about $225 each shipped), sprung over, or pulling out the welder and putting some OME fj60 springs or something else on.

That said, every pig is just a little bit different from abuse and every owner gets different levels of satisfaction from different springs. Ask spector how many years they have had the same shipment of springs in stock and that should truely answer your question.

Great info, Snailwagon, and even better quote that I'd never heard from the most intelligent man the US has this produced, FZ.

I actually just e-mailed Alcan for a quote. I want to stay spring-under, so I'll look at other optiones than SOR. Yeah, their shipping often kills orders I would have otherwise placed with them.

I've been running the SOR springs for a couple of months now and am very pleased with the ride. Exactly 2" of lift over old stock springs, using stock shackles. Expensive, yes, but so far I don't regret spending the $$$$......installed BFG M/T 33-10.50 and they fit very nicely.

Well, Battle, how's the ride quality? Did it stiffen up the ride at all? In my case, I have well over 200 lbs hanging on the front bumper, so I need a little increase in spring rate in the front, bu t my rear is light, so don't need much there...

Let me know what you think of the ride.

ride quality

Ride quality is great. It doesn't feel any stiffer than my worn out stock springs. There seems to be less body roll when making a quick turn. Loaded down with my camping gear, there is no noticeable sag. The front sits about an 1", maybe an 1-1/2" higher than the rear. A winch and custom bumper would probably level it out perfectly. I really couldn't be happier with the springs.....
