Hi All,

I am in the market for new shocks for my GX. It is not lifted, nor do I plan to lift it any time soon.

Can anyone recommend a replacement shock for it? I can just buy new shocks while still having air suspension in the rear, correct?

Thanks,
Andy

You'll need OEM-replacement shocks to retain the adjustable suspension. You may be able to find a free/cheap set someone's taking off when lifting.

A-1 CARDONE has them for ~$210/ea and OEM is ~$175 front and ~$534 rear.

I should have noted that I don't care to retain the adjustable suspension. I just want good performing standard shocks for a good price!

Having worked in the engineering department at Cardone when they first began remanufacturing shocks, I don't think I would ever buy a remanufactured shock from them!! Granted, it has been 20 years, but still....

I replaced my rear shocks with 4Runner shocks 48530-80372 about 30,000 miles ago, they seem ok and are cheap. I replaced the front shocks with OEM since they are not super expensive (the actuators are a separate part, unlike the rear shocks).

If you have experience in remanufacturing shocks, I think it should be possible to drain and refill the oil on the stock shocks.

Are the OE front shocks rebuildable
