Following this thread I ordered the following

Amazon product ASIN B01HH0OQKK
About a month after installation I noticed the left strut "wiggled" when fully raised, the right did not. I contacted WAS and asked if this is typical or an issue. I got a quick reply for "Liz" stating that is was not typical and they would be sending out a replacement after confirming my address. What a great Amazon vendor, the replacement arrived 2 or 3 days later.

Wanted to chime in here a few years later and update everyone about my solution to tired/ worn out lift gate struts on my 2016 J200.

I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09K5C7YNW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Brand is: A-Premium and is Chinese

But only after much confusion about what to get because the non-electric/ automatic lift gate but post 16+ nature of the 2016 made Amazon, chatgpt, and the internet in general confused and totally unable to recommend products.

These were plug and play and even with my Gobi ladder have PLENTY of lift power. My old struts could keep the door up, but not with a 1/2 inch of snow on it for reference on gone-ness.

Tip for removal of stock arms is to start with the top. Prop and remove the door/ lift gate, then unscrew the top two bolts. This gives your crescent wrench access to the previously too-small space btw the lower ball joint/ bolt combo that is one piece, and does not snap on like some other lift gate struts.

Thats all I got. Will post again here if they fail or are not good - otherwise consider these a plug and play option.

Forgot to mention: the new strut ball joints do not come greased. Grease them before mounting to vehicle and work it in.

Just for the record, Genuine Toyota struts (with their inherent quality) are about $35 each from the discount sites, less if you wait for a sale.
