On a road trip a few weeks ago, I threw a P0441 code early in the trip. I had my basic BlueDriver OBD scan tool, but not my Otofix. Decided to continue. By the end of the trip (1200 miles) I was smelling fuel near the back of the truck.

As I described in this entry, I discovered that the electrical connection to the purge valve mounted to the EVAP charcoal canister was broken (the canister is above the spare tire). I was pretty sure that the canister, since it hadn't vented in over 1000 miles, was probably saturated and ruined. Sure enough, the canister I took off was over a half a pound heavier than the new (factory) unit. Here is what my vapor pressure (tank pressure I think) looked like with the old canister on the Otofix:

Vapor before 2.webp

And here is what it looks like with the new canister:

Vapor after 1.webp

In both cases, this is stop and go and mid-speed traffic in 90+ degree temps, with the gas tank about 3/4 full. As you can see, both the VSV and the purge valve are opening.

The good news is that I no longer smell gasoline after I turn off the car. No codes are thrown. But I was really hoping that the vapor pressure would be in the "blue zone". It does fluctuate some, and never pegs the meter. If I open the gas cap, the pressure immediately decreases, so it seems that the pressure sensor is working.

As the post says, how do I determine if this is normal? My biggest concern is that I'm just re-saturating the new canister.

Thanks.
