Yes. And you have to dispose of it properly. I'll PM you my address and you can put it in a flat-rate box and send it to me each year and I'll dispose of it properly for you - just because I am a nice guy. 
Where did you hear there is a 12 month lifespan on synthetic rope?

I was reading the warn manual from the vr 10000 synthetic at warns web site and it says to replace every 12 months, sound about as crazy as mailing my rope to patoyota.

clean synthetic rope. Do not use

water (pressure washers, car
washes, etc.) between the drum
support and drum f ange or clutch
lever.
Use low pressure water and a
soapy rag or sponge to clean the
winch.
Avoid using chemicals that
may damage the f nish.
Thoroughly clean salt residue
from the winch as soon as possible
to minimize corrosion.
Maintenance
Replace rope every 12 months
with WARN rope P/N 87915.
No lubrication is required for
the life of the winch unless the
winch has been submerged in
water. If this occurs, a qualif ed
service center must complete
service as soon as possible to
prevent corrosion damage. If the
control pack is submerged, it must
be replaced when the winch is
serviced.
Check battery cables and
electrical connections at 90 day
intervals to be certain they are
clean and tight at all connection
points.
Inspect the rope before and
after each winching operation.
When damaged, replace with the
size specif ed in the Replacement
Parts List, or go to the Warn
website at Warn Industries - Winches, Mounting Systems, Accessories, Hubs, Air Compressors, Flares, Lights, Body Amor.
The rope must always spool

Ah... No. Unless Warn is using a proprietary fiber that they have sourced and are manufacturing privately.... Then perhaps you should stick to their guidelines.

No need to replace it unless it is physically damaged. And even then you can simply cut the damage out and put the line back together.

Thats the page I copied and pasted from warns website, look up the vr 10000s and look at the owners manual PDF. page 7. Its got to be a misprint, would be ridiculous to spend that money every year. Im looking at buying a warn with synthetic line, and that would definitely make me go steel rope.

Personally, I would disregard Warns suggestion. There is no valid reason to replace every 12 months "just because."
Just for kicks, I did look up prices on the part number warn suggests you use... It is in the ballpark of most companies offering line in the 3/8 x 100' variety. If you buy it direct from warn, its $700 give or take.

Thanks good to hear, thought that sounded strange.
Sounds like Warn is using iRope.
If so, then yeah ......... 12 months and you need to replace it with iRope 2 .......... then iRope 3, then .........

Well not so much on more functions, 'but' ........ it is a most striking shade of mauve!!
Even from a liability standpoint, that seems excessive.

I checked out the VR8000 and M8000 winches with the synthetic rope and they also say to replace it every 12 months. So it isn't just that the VR10000 overloads it and they're being cautious and telling you to replace it more often.

Just a bit of clarification here:
The first link to the winch rope you posted above (Warn Industries - Winch Rope for Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: Synthetic Winch Rope) is not the rope that is on the VR winches. This is our soon-to-be-discontinued rope, not the Spydura rope that comes with our new winches. The rope on the VR8000-s, VR10000-s, 9.5cti-s, 9.5xp-s, and M8000-s is rated to pull 10,000.

so the new rope just needs inspection every now and then and not to be replaced every 12 months? I just bought the vr10000s.
Andy, is the 10,000 rating a minimum or maximum?
I'll have to check what the official literature says.
The rope is pull tested up to 10,000 lbs. I do not know the maximum breaking strength of the rope. It is over 10,000 lbs., obviously, but I don't know the exact figure.
