I was reading somewhere that a member suggested it might be possible to use 570 globes to increase payload of 470 when adding bumpers, and other expedition accoutrements. The thinking was that the 570 is a much heavier vehicle and thus AHC designed to operate at higher payloads...Seems it would require accompanying springs. How would one keep the pressures in the 470 range so as not to break the computer algorithms. I thought it was an interesting suggestion, but I am not sufficiently experienced to think, through the possibilities.

any thoughts??

I haven't heard that, but I think @PADDO uses the rear globes on the front and rear (I think they are larger iirc).

570 #1 front accumulators and 470 fronts have the same volume and precharge at 400cc and 2.26 MPa. Can’t comment if they are physically interchangeable, haven’t tried.
570 #1 rear is 400cc and 1.90 MPa whereas the 470 rear is 500cc at 2.65MPa. Myth busted I believe as to if fitting 570 globes would give a 470 extra payload capacity: they’d actually reduce overall payload capacity (in the context of maintaining good dampening and ride quality) if they fitted.

I couldn't find ant specs on volume/charge of accumulators, so thanks PADDO! From what I've been able to find 470 gross vehicle weight is 6856lbs and 570 is 7385lbs. If the 570 is a heavier vehicle but the globes are actually smaller, is that an indication that the globes are designed to withstand much higher sustained / instantaneous pressures, or is the added weight compensated by stiffer springs and torsion bars??

Does anyone have record of ideal system pressure for 570 to compare to ideal pressures for 470??

PADDO, I read some where that you might have system specs for my 1998 470. If so can you fwd??

I have tech stream, although I haven't had time to do anything with it. I've only had the vehicle for a couple of months, but have been looking for one a couple of years.

Thanks for the replies

Bill there’s no real point in comparing the 100 series AHC/AVS system to the significantly more sophisticated second generation 570 system.
What specs are you looking for? neutral pressures? design is 6.9 MPa front and rear is within the range of 5.7-6.5 MPa with new globes. Optimized damping for your vehicle can usually be found with a little trial and error but something around 6.7 F and 6 R (or lower) works well for aged but still serviceable damper globes.

@PADDO Do you happen to know if the LX570 rear springs will fit the LX470? Just wondering if they would be an alternative to the King springs to give the LX470 a bit more payload capability. My '00 LX470 springs are getting tired and I may want to replace them, but would prefer a slightly higher spring rate.

I have a 99 LX470 and I replaced my rear springs with OEM, but also added 30 mm spacers.

Thanks PADDO.... I'm not looking for anything in particular just collecting as much info as I can find.

With regards to 570 globes, the point of the discussion is an exercise in theorizing what the mechanical differences might be between the two vehicular and what those differences might suggest as to cross-platform compatibility. I find that my own understanding becomes more robust after discussing even implausible scenarios. While some might not see a point in comparing the systems, I believe there is merit in just such a comparison. The topic doesn't seem to have been fully explored or even mildly explored in the past here or anywhere else I can find, and any discussion that adds to the knowledge respository might be useful for others for other reasons.

Anyway, just my two cents...

Haven’t any experience with the 570 so can’t offer anything on spring compatiblity for the 470/100.

OK thanks. There are some surplus new parts available here from a company that tears them out of brand new LX570's and was wondering if they would work for the LX470 with AHC. I might look into this further. Same with the LX570 globes. Interesting that they might work for the LX470 fronts...

Did you ever look more seriously into this? Was just curious since Peliades globes (according to eBay) work on both the 470s and the 570s
