For anyone referencing this thread (As I have) a 12MM socket with (2) 3/8" drive extensions will enable you to take the internal nut off.

I did have the Intake manifold and hardlines off while I was prepping to pulling the pump off.

A simple cummins ve pump puller did the trick for me in the past. It’s essentially a plate with some holes in it. You could make one easy enough

I used the Kit from HF that had the metric threaded bolts to boot!
Also came with the pointed attachment so it wont slip off.

The SST is actually a very simple tool.

Easy to make one but iirc it was not very expensive. It is also a dual purpose tool, the other end of it has holes that match up to a wide variety of Toyota flanges such as pinions. So you can use it when torquing pinion nuts. And on that note, the SST is more useful when installing the pump so you can hold the IP shaft and get a correct torque on the IP nut.

Cheers

Can you use an impact gun to remove shaft nut? I can't get it to budge with a breaker bar.
How are you keeping the pump from rotating when you’re getting the nut off? I even have the special service tool, but it only points at one point and it spins every time I try to turn the nut.

A steering wheel puller from any auto parts store will pull the pump. Don’t smack on the pump shaft with a hammer with or with out the nut on it.

I have seen at least one where the guy completely mushroomed the shaft threads. All the while a simple $20 puller will do it right.

Cheers
