Here we go in tech again....

Josh, go out and look at the back of your cruiser and tell me that you would try and tape off the insides (exposed body paint on the insides of the emblems) instead of doing it correctly by removing, sanding, and painting...

If you would, fine. Most people here like to do a better job than that, and sending out the cruiser to have experts do everything for us is not always an option.

Think about what you are saying before you say it. :flipoff2: minus :D

EDIT: Thanks Wob for posting a pic for the visualizationally impaired tard.

Sparky -- you make it tough for a feller to defend ya...

Take the emblems off, paint them, slap them back on.

I found some 3M moulding and emblem adhesive double sided tape that works well for just this type of application. I think it would be kind of a pain to trim it around all the holes though.
Maybe an exacto knife or something similar would work well for this...

Look im not as overly obsessed with a freakin detail as a lot of you guys and it saves you a lot of time. It's my opinion and my way I would do it. Respect that! :flipoff2:

So time is the most important thing, not quality? You really think you could tape off everything perfectly (oh yeah you said you were concerned with detail, right?) in a shorter amount of time than just pulling them off?

What about overspray? Oh yeah, not concerned about details, I know. Good thing Urban is doing all of your work, I'd hate to see what inattention to detail would bring around on the other mods if you did them yourself .

Hey, it is your truck, and I respect that and you are free to Fawk it up anyway you see fit.

My point is that anybody that cares about doing it right thinks your way is booty-fab. If you don't have time to do the job right the first time, when are you going to have time to re-do it later?

Respect this!

Haha thats right it is my truck and I don't respect anything you say to me cause it's always negative. So respect that! It's my advice not yours.

Just took mine off last week. It's a '97, so it had to the two locating posts. Couple things - be careful prying the "T" off, I snapped one of the arcs on mine. I used a metal putty knife that I'd covered with masking tape. There was a TON of tape residue under both emblems, I don't know what I'd recommend to take it off. I used an eraser wheel from a buddy of mine that does body work. Rustoleum Hammered Black is a pretty close black pearl, but I'd heard Testor's has an actual "Black Pearl" model paint.

And when you do the grill emblem, don't kid yourself into thinking that your hand can get all three screws out without moving the grill out a little.

3M has an adhesive remover that works well.

I tried the citrus/orange oil stuff...don't waste your time.

The "goof-off" and/or "oops" stuff that looks and smells like lighter fluid works well too and might be easier to find than the 3M stuff.

Because I had a thought on how to do it that is a lot easier than you guys do it and saves you time and frustration. Like bending the logo and so forth.

I'm sorry. You are right Josh. I am in the 99% of people here that are just wasting our time. You obviously have a much deeper and broader understanding of the most efficient and time saving strategies of Cruiser repair and maintenance than I do, or the board for that matter.

You also have the ability to transcend minor issues like topic threads "Removing rear emblems" and make them into "To Remove or Not to Remove, that is the question!" Your mental capabilities continue to astound, and I just realized that I am not worthy.

I am sorry I doubted you Obi-Wan....There, a positive post, right?

The emblem on the center of the top rear latch has 2 holes that will need to be plugged somehow. The others on the rear have no holes to worry about.

I think the emblem on the grill would be most easily removed if you first remove the grill and get to the 2 nuts on the back of the emblem.

I just got my 1995 emblems in from CDan and wanted to give a picture to descibe what has been discussed already... pics are always good!

interesting, the rear donut on my 97 has non-symmetric attachment nubs

You have to watch that aftermarket crap that guy in NM peddles... :D j/k

I know... what junk! :D

Dan's the man

All others are right, the Toyo sombrero or Lexi L will have locating holes. The others can be removed. Take them off carefully and buff the area smooth. Mine is clean on the back except for the sombrero emblem.
If they want to advertise, they are welcome to rent a billboard. But not on my truck! I will advertise for them when they give me a truck, until then the emblems come off!
