Thanks for the suggestion Mike, I may try that when it warms up. Its kinda funny but I kinda like it all ratty looking...

I did however get it to start and run this afternoon with the help of a friend by dumping fuel slowly in the carb so thats pretty exciting!

I hear what you are saying. My 75fst ( the one I keep buying parts from you to complete :)) looks like a rat rod - 4 different colors. My wife hates it and keeps asking me when I'm going to paint it, but like it. My son calls it the zombie cruiser.

Glad to hear you got it to start and run.
That`s funny my wife is always asking the same thing when i`m going to get it painted she calls it my POS. I kinda like the patina.

My good buddy owns a body shop and I still can't afford to paint it...and the wife likes it so I'm good there. She came with me to buy it and sorta claimed it when I get it driving safely. Which would be sweet:) If she can handle her dads 1960 Corvette she can drive a 40.

The body is in pretty rough shape from the under seat tool box and back. I'm also pretty patient when it comes to spending money I don't have.

I'm always on the hunt to find more 40s to part out so eventually ill get a tub again i can fix while driving this one and swap them when the time comes.

Yes it was Dan, getting the fuel tank from the shop today from my 74. Gonna run that one for now. It's $80 to get the tank boiled out at Dakota Radiator. If it's the same tank and
Emissions tubes on it I'm just gonna run that one.

It's $60 to get the radiator done so I'm leaning that way since all the coolant lines will be new.

Didn't have much time this week to get much done other than tear it all down, clean parts and order some parts. I did of course break a few more bolts...

Cleaned up the thermostat housing/base and got the broken bolt out.
Pulled the radiator and mount. Drained all the coolant and it was super clean. I flushed hose water thru it from both ends as well as the drain pepcock. This is the only time I saw rusty water when I ran water reverse thru the pepcock hole. I'm torn now to take it and get boiled and pressure tested or just run it.
I also established the old gas tank is leaking on the bottom after wire wheelin it some more. My 1974 tank has different evap lines. So gotta get to storage and see if the 1970 tank I have will work now.

I also got some parts from @launchit out of the classifieds that showed up Sat.

The starter was making noise when Dan and I first turned it over. Funny I got the starter and fuel pump coming before I got this far, maybe that's why I needed it...but I cleaned both of them up in prep to swapping one or both eventually.

I'm also trying to get a spare water pump and a F motor gasket set from another mudder that he has laying around.

I took count of all the hose clamps I'm gonna need to replace. Going to order those in the AM.

Started a new bolt bin trey for this 40 for all the stuff I'm removing. Most of the stuff I've broken I can replace with the leftovers from parting out a bunch of 40s but I'm still gonna have to buy a few here as there.

Now while the bib is folded down I'm gonna get to cleaning the front of the motor while it is accessible easily so I can spot any leaks in the future and correct. It may save me time down the road and not look like such a leaky crusty POS.

I have a pile of parts to blast and paint this coming week while I wait for parts from @beno to put my fuel and coolant system back together. It's alway nice to send a quick email and get the correct parts :) Thanks Onur! The small premium is definitely worth it to avoid the time at the dealer.

I'll take all the 40-60 degree days I can get in the Dakotas this time of year! It's been nice and forecasted to hold for the week.

Is Steamboat warm too Ash?

I need to get to Colorado to snowboard before the end of the season.
Heard the snow pack is great right now.

Of course a few of the bolts I broke today are a pain to replace.

Has anyone had replace the air cleaner housing carriage type bolts?

I also started soaking the seatbelts in hot water and dawn dish soap. I'll let them sit overnight, rinse and dry out tomorrow in the sun while we have above freezing weather.

Don't know how bad it's gonna make the rest of the engine compartment look but I couldn't put all this stuff back in without cleaning it up first. Blasted it and grabbed some paint I've had sitting around and coated it all.

I got a few more things done this week while I wait for parts.

Cleaned up the Engine compartment, blasted/painted a few more parts. Cleaned the frame rails of years of build up and flushed the engine block of all the old coolant. Did all this in the driveway so with a 1" spackle knife, tooth brush and some liquid wrench I scraped and cleaned as much as I could with cardboard under the truck then pressure washed it all.

Also established that the tank from the 1970 will work but it's a little crusty as well. The 70 is on the left, 72 in the middle and a 74 on the right which is the nicest one. Next I'm planning to drop the fuel hardline and inspect, flush and blow it out. I'll start putting the fuel system back together after that.
