In need of a new windshield on my 03 100-series. I’m located in a suburb of Minneapolis and looking for a local recommendation for a skilled installer who will do the job right. Willing to drive for the right one.

The Quality Learing Center should be able to hook you up. In all seriousness your insurance might cover the cost of replacement. Some states require insurance companies to cover cracked or damaged windshields. I would consider going to your local Safelite. They do many windshield replacements and should be good at it.

As I think the OP probably realizes, the replacement of a 100 series windshield is as much an art as a science. Or maybe the better comparison is it is closer to rocket science than middle school science. Regardless, I would interview any Safelite installer carefully about what they plan to do before trusting them with this job. Otherwise, you may get the old screw job (instead of rivets, that is).

Do yourself a favor and buy the correct rivets at the Toyota parts counter (x8) plus new rubber trim strips that cover the rivets. Install the rubber trim yourself (it’s 5 minutes) so you can verify the installer used YOUR rivets correctly.

The $50 you’ll spend on all this will save you headaches and help ensure accountability.

Appreciate the comments. I had the pleasure (?) of installing one trim/moulding piece and discovered that the original A pillar hole diameters were a bit larger than the OEM replacement rivets. That was fun. Had to go with the next size up and they held. Anytime it rains I’m just looking for water. Terrible design.

But yes, this is a job I don’t want any random installer to do. I got a recommendation from a local Toyota shop to use Auto Glass Express here in the twin cities. They have lots of experience handling LC windshields.

Autoglass Xpress out of White Bear Lake has done two windshields for me. My Travelers plan paid for all OE parts from Lexus, glass included, with a $0 deductible.

Lynn did both of my installs. Request him if you can.

Lynn did mine as well. He has a special tool for the rivets.
