Rebuilding the bakdoor on a 4-runner gen 2, anyone?

I want to change the stupid rear window on my runner. I am thinking of side-hinging the door and change the window electronics. Getting the electronics from a LR freelander whose backwindow decends just a few cm when you open the door.

Anyone tried something like this? I am sick and tired of the backwindow not working properly...

I am in your position myself. My tailgate is rusting out very badly. The 3rd gen design is so much better, to bad they dont interchange. I wish an aftermarket company would make a better tailgate for the 4runner. Short of something custom I have found nothing.

I am getting a old worn down runner in a month or two, I try to figure something out then. I am actually surprised that no-one have done anything with the stupid back door...
