Morning

I'm about to start rebuilding the rear axels on my 100. They were rebuilt by someone who didn't know what they were doing and are now leaking axel fluid into the rear hubs and the rear ABS rings are in the wrong place. Nightmare.

I've bought the tools from America and they are being shipped to the UK.

Any advice on this most welcome. Will post pictures from the rebuild. wish me luck!!

(If anyone has the measurements of where the ABS ring should be located. That would be most welcome.)

As long as you have the service manual and can read, you'll be fine.

I can't help with the tone ring location. My LX470 is too far away from me to get to, at the moment.

Here is pic I snapped when I serviced mine, I used the same leftover fipg when I rebuilt my t-case as added insurance to leakage.

The ABS tone ring is out of the seal, it should be dry; otherwise the magnetic abs sensor will not get an accurate data and will eventually throw errors that will affect your abs and traction system. And if one side is leaking we typically do the other side as well. Hope this helps.

I took this photo when I rebuilt my rear axle with an e-locker last year as I replaced all of the wheel bearings at the same time.

You'd have been welcome to borrow the tooling I made up to press bearings off as I'm in the UK. I assume you've ordered the long tube for pressing the hubs off the driveshaft? I used a generic bearing puller with stainless all-thread to remove the ABS ring and seal ring and made my own long tube (the flanges were significantly beefed up from those in the photo). The bearing retainer was FT and I used a carbide burr to cut most of the way through it to relieve the hoop stress holding it on before cracking it with a chisel.

If you happen to need diff side bearings for an open or LSD axle, I have some OE ones I mis-bought (don't fit the elocker) that you're welcome to for the cost of post? Or if you're rebuilding a locking diff I have a whole bunch of left over shims that I would sell.

Thats a nice home brew carrier holder you made

FYI I have a set of 4.10 gears and carriers (together) front and rear diff's, the rear is LSD in case someone is looking. Going to post up in classifieds.

I'm in the Midlands - Warwick.

What sort of diff do you have? Open, elocker or LSD?

Best option to have, but it's definitely harder to set up with shims rather than the adjusters of the open/LSD variant.
it doesn't seem to want to work after they rebuild!
