Have any of you rebuilt these factory soft doors?

Do you know what the panel is originally made of?

thanks

wasn't a thread on mud, it was a writeup in toyota trails

ok it seems as though there is a metal channel that retains the canvas and the rubber seal.

SOR has some bits , like the window channels, but alot of stuff is discontinued.
Depending on the condition of the doors i might need to fab some bits.

Any addition info will be appreciated.
If i find out anything new i will post here.
Once i get the truck and successfully rebuild the doors, i will post the process in detail.

Thanks

I have a pair that need rebuilding that I've put on the backburner. However, I do have one new OEM door (still has plastic protecting the sliding window) to use as a guide in addition to that excellent TT article. PM me if you ever need any pics - now if I could only find another new to go with it.

I might take you up on that :)
Be helpful to see how it is supposed to look.

Yeah i am missing the sliding plastic and corner glass on the driver side, need to search for these bits :)

Its actually very easy to rebuild these doors...the retaining channel (that holds the rummer door seal) holds the canvas/vinyl in place holds the canvas

Wrap the canvas on the top holding plate...it has tabs that fold over onto the door frame.

then pull bottom down and secure in the middle of the bottom of the door with the screw...then work your way around on both sides.

really not that hard just a bit time consuming.

then the rubber goes into the channel...sooo...if you are replacing the channel retaining screws...you need to use a wood type screw...very small ...it needs to be a countersunk screw that has the thread go all the way down the shank...I think i found some at True Value.

Alil soap on the channel and rubber it will slide thru nicely...if you use a lube like spray sylicone...if it gets on the canvas it will be there for a long time...like getting a oil stain on your jeans.

I replaced one plastic window with a piece of plexiglass the same thickness...workes really well

Very cool :)

It looks as though i will need new channel rubber...
If you all know of any replacement rubber places, or if i can just use conventional materials bought by the foot, please let me know :)

a few years ago the rubber for the door channel was avail at toyota...you might want to check w/toyota or CDan

part # 68161-60020 FJ40..TP; FOR CANVAS DOOR

the 1/4 window rubber is no longer avail...i know that for sure

nice!

Thanks for the part number, helps a lot.
Yea seems like most of the early 60's parts re getting more tough to locate.
I ordered double of some things i thought would wear easily and need replacing down the line :)

Excited to get the truck to, should be here before the weekend :)

hi Sputnik40

If you get some down time would you mind snapping a few photos at multiple angles of the OEM soft door?
Picks of connectors, and the rubber channels etc would much appreciated.
That way i can start brain storming my plan of attack :)

Thanks!
