Here is what I have. 83 pickup 174.544 on the 22r I purchased truck and was told that the head and gasket were just done. There was no carb on the truck at time of purchase, so I did not here it run.

I just installed weber carb conv. kit and filled up coolant and this is where the trouble started!!! As I was filling rad. the motor started leaking out everywhere IE timing cover, intake manifold, rad, and behind timeing cover. There was a hole on the back side of timing coverabout an 1.5" round with a bolt hole on either side of ot. Whats supposed to be there???

I just tore the head and all accersories off Bolts missing, loose or completely overtight on every part.

Now my question is put all new gaskets and hope for the best or rebuild now that is tore apart? Where do I go for a quality kit?

Sorry so long winded but ha to explain to get the best response. Any suggestions and parts vendors would be AWSOME.

Thanks

junk yard and get a complet running motor and put it in.
who knows what else lurks in the depths of a motor put together like that.
he messed up putting the wrong bolt in the cover.
easy to do on that one, if it is the one that I am thinking of.

the rest........ who knows what is stripped, dropped down into, ground up and lost in the oil ways.

That sucks... I'd just get it running and go drive it into his house.... but that's probably not the best idea... Yeah, you're probably better off waiting for a running engine to put in it... unless you want to do a full rebuild, there's no telling what's going on inside that thing...

Does anyone know were to find a good used engine? I have been to the junk yard in the area and not one 22r insite or toya truck for that matter.

Any one have an opion on a 4.3 motor swap? Pros/cons

It just sounds to me like everything wasn't put back after the HG...

Forget the Weber (should have got a AISIN) and forget about the water...

Just hook the starter up and check the compression. Good compression, just hook all the water lines up, NBD...

It's just another story of a lazy ass PO that got lazy after he found out his project has 96 hp and wouldn't power those 44's after it was done, and metric bolts confuse him... He just slapped it back enough to try and recoup as much money as he could, so he could go buy that S-10 he always wanted and didn't hook all the coolant lines up...

Not scared of the work. I already tore down the motor to replace all gaskets and fire it up. Not so lucky! The block has a chunk missing where the top left timing cober bolt goes in and the cylinders look like crap not to mention the rest of the block. Looks like a new motor is in my future. Priced a new unit for advance auot parts 1,650 out the door. Time to save some money.

s***...........you got wenzled:bang:

good luck man

If you want to do a budget build, you should go to the junk yard and pull a moter for a couple hundred bucks thats running and then buy the parts u need to make it work like you want it too. be alot cheaper than buying a new motor and you can get what u want while gaining the experience and knowledge.

even if u need to replace a few of the parts it would still be cheaper than buying a new one.

Good luck with everything!

Would you care to elaborate?

Not wanting to speak for the other guy but if its a Weber side draft they are hard to tune properly on the 22r.

Found a used motor with 86,000 miles its being dropped off tom. I already orderes a gasket kit to put on before I stuff it in. Have some pics when its done. $800.00 To my door was the cheapest I could find without needing a rebuild. Taking the old motor out I found a drack in one of the journals.

Next GEARS AND LOCKERS!!!

make sure the timing cover gasket and s*** is sealed good
