So I bought a 1978 fj55 last year and have had little time to work on it. One thing i did know was that the rear window did not work due to a cracked gear. I went ahead and bought the brass one from cruiser_guy (awesome quality btw :D). I finally got around to cleaning up the regulator and installing the gear (the motor still works :D) and now I'm unable to figure out how to get it all together as I have never seen it together and working. The main problem is I can't seem to get the regulator adjusted right, to raise and lower the window straight (ie not sideways/slanted) I have mounted the regulator, have figured out how to get the rear window holder attached to the rollers (however they do roll out of the holder when fully rolled down - problem #2), but I can't seem to figure out the proper configuration of the regulator/regulator springs. I did a search and read one post with scanned in shop manual pages, that were of some help but not the type I guess I need. Any help would be great!
Thanks

HaHAHA! That is the hard part, isn't it? I did one of those gear swaps for a 'Cruiserhead, not tooo long ago...I had to look at that puzzle and figure it out again.
With the motor hooked up to 12 volts, and the arms not attached to the window, run the motor all the way up, so that the arm regulator gear comes off (disengages) the drive gear. Then you can disengage the two arms move the teeth one way or the other and re-engage them....The two arms are out of synch with each other. Kinda like your dizzy being one tooth off on re-install...
I'm looking at my spare rearwindow regulator as I type, and the two arms are assymetrical when positioned properly. Make sense?

I have the same problem....

Sounds awful common! I recently bought a 71 PIG knowing the rear window did not roll up and down and have since concluded the nylon gear was disintegrated. I ordered the part from cruiserparts.net and am awaiting its arrival. I've been looking into it on here as I anticipate not knowing where to line up the regulator arms since they came out of sync when I took the motor out. Is there a tooth count on either arm that the two should line up at? Any more detail would be greatly appreciated. :steer:

I just joined up yesterday by the way, this is my second pig (had a 74 couple years back, missed it had to get another). I also own a 90 FJ62.

Haven't taken any pictures of her yet but I will and post them soon... :meh:

I will be installing mine tomorrow. Glad I read this. I found a brand new nylon gear in a footlocker of spare parts that came with my Piggy.
