It's just foam, I'd soak it in dishwasing liquid and wring it out a couple of times.
Or maybe run it through the dishwasher, nothing to lose...

I'm not good at taking before shots, but the "before" washer jar was full of a black slurry floating in blue wiper fluid. The sides and top were crusted over with the same black goo that was floating in the water. Couldn't flush out all the black goo on the sides or get a brush into everywhere, so I followed a YouTube suggestion to fill the washer jar half full of kitty litter, then fill with water and bleach. It took about 20 minutes of shaking this kitty litter around in the jar but eventually it did remove all of the scale. ... Unfortunately the kitty litter I used was the "clumping" kind. :bang: Picture is of a brand new washer jar.
